Week 26 - The Championships, Wimbledon (grass) - women's qualifying

Mladenovic looks like she's struggling physically a bit - back issues? Hope Marni can exploit that a bit.

She'll need to get her serve in. Two doubles in that last game to go a break down.

And again broken from game point. Gar. It's all there she's just not doing it!

3-4*

Marni loses the first set 6-4. Really due to poor returning - had plenty of opportunities.

Emily down a break in the second *0-3

Marni looks fitter and stronger than when I saw her at Surbiton last year, but is still a little too agressive and missing too many lines. Close match though, 4-6

Oh, poor Em. Sounds like some serious nerves; bit of a heartbreaker. Still, 3 sets justifies a WC and she way outperformed bettors' predictions.

Who are Marni's two coaches?

Marni 4-1* up in the 3rd set. Do see this one out, please.

Yeah sadly Emily froze. She broke herself at *4-4 which was a real shame as it was a great effort and a very close match. Two double faults from *40-30 then missed a volley to get broken, then hit three errors of the forehand side to go down three match points. Just sort of combusted in the home straight.

Maybe felt the pressure a bit too much. Gutted for her, was overall a performance and fight to be proud of against a good player, but that won't make it hurt less.

Well Im a big Marni fan However I was not impressed with that performance at all as both players were well below par if you ask me.
This was a girl who hit harder than most was an unbelievable athlete who could get everything back and could move the ball around nicely. It seems to me that she is too reliant on her serve and when that isnt firing there is nothing much to back it up. At least she started to play a little better in the 3rd set however she will have a tough time against Kayla day tomorrow playing like that.
