Some people often talk about how our players choke, or can't finish matches, or are mentally weak or whatever. It always annoys me as, although it might be right in very specific cases, my point is that it is SO common as to be normal. Players in the lead blow it. If you go Roehampton for the day, and watch a lot of matches, here and there, (as opposed to just a couple, start to finish) you see it SO often.
The WTA site has summarised a few from yesterday (they focus on the player fighting back - but that;s just the other side of the same coin - look at the ones who lost)
"Amanda Anisimova was one of several players who pulled off remarkable comebacks, overturning a 4-0 second-set deficit to defeat No.4 seed Hailey Baptiste 6-7(3), 7-5, 6-1.
Elsewhere, Alexandra Eala saved eight match points en route to upsetting No.14 seed Tamara Zidansek 1-6, 7-6(9), 6-3 and Anca Todoni came from 3-0 down in the decider to best No.32 seed Kimberly Birrell 6-7(2), 7-5, 6-4.
Playing just the fourth event of her comeback from a two-year injury hiatus, Zarina Diyas came from 5-2 down in the third set to edge No.29 seed Sachia Vickery 3-6, 7-5, 7-5."
I think yesterday was a fantastic exhibition of the mental strength of our female players: - Hannah taking a bagel and winning anyway. - Marni failing to serve out the first set twice but getting it in the tiebreak. - Emma saving a match point and again struggling to serve it out but getting it over the line. - Sonay and Harriet coming back from losing second sets. Of course, all of these are as you say CD a normal part of tennis, but absolutely no-one here could be accused of mental weakness!

And I saw plenty of others too
A very good point. Shows how interest in a result can affect how you view a performance. Same applies to media. The idea that our player won or our player lost, not that the other player won.
So annoying that the BBC are showing Goffin over Banks.
The BBC only have access to show court 1 apparently and I guess it's the All England Club who determine the schedule. I have commented previously on how pathetic I think this is. At the French Open qualifying I was able to watch any court I wanted on Discovery Plus.
This is a real shame. She was nervous to start with, didn't settle, and it's just running away. I thought she was most likely of the three to win as well as the other two have very hard final round opponents. Hopefully she can at least get into this set and make her opponent work.
Marni:s first serve percentage was very good today however as I said a couple of days ago she relieds too much on her serve.
The Canadian dealt well with Marni,s serve and movedMarni about with accuracy, not power.
Marni seemed like she was just trying to beat the girl with pace which didnt work.
At the level Marni will be playing over the next year. She will need to have more layers in her game as she will not just be able to blow this calibre of player off the court.
A good few days though, and its good to see her without an injury.
I guess there could be lucky losers in due course? How does that work for Wimbledon? The number of lucky losers spaces plus 1 taken from the top ranked losers?
Im guessing there is little chance of Marni being in for any sort of look in?

Minimum of 4 players in the hat, and has to be at least two more players than spots avaliable. But for Marni, no chance.
