RE: Week 25 - LTA Wimbledon Wild Card Play Offs - Roehampton (Grass)

If Katie S is fit, then she should easily have the quality to come through. Don't forget that she came through the Wimbledon qualifiers a couple of years ago and if the op to remove the trapped nerve and back spasms has been successful, then maybe she could actually have a chance in qualifying. It's surely better to be playing than sitting there and waiting for an SR, especially as I think her ranking has sat around the 300 mark for some time because of her injuries, so it's not like she would be given entry into the elite tournaments anyway.

I agree.  If it was any other time of the year then there could be an argument for waiting out the 6 months but it's Wimbledon and with her injury record she wouldn't want to risk waiting another year for an opportunity to play there if she feels she is fit enough to compete now.

Shes been busy in the gym, I hope she can start to show her potential.

A stacked draw for sure. Great to see Swan's name back on this list, hope she is ready more than anything. Marni or Sonay could do everyone a favour and win Ilkley to make sure everyone gets bumped up, and make room for a third to qualify from this group hahaha

When I spoke to Katie at Surbiton she thought she was a few weeks away from playing again. I certainly got the impression that she wouldn't be competing two weeks later ! I hope she is ready and not just taking a chance as she should get to contest a tough final round against Beth or Millie. I would still make Millie the favourite from this section though.

Amended thread title as I had put Roehampton and just realised it is at the AELTC premises

 Thanks Paul

Mens action starts at 11, the 8 matches will be played in two lots of 4; the womens says NB 1.30 but realistically, that could be more like 3 pm if the mens matches take 90-120 mins each.

Well yes and no - I'd forgotten about the live scores last year but remembered an earlier year when it was late in the afternoon before any scores were available.

If Sonay beats Lily, maybe she will get bumped up to MD and save everyone a bit of stress...

Great job, PaulM - thanks smile

PS Really pleased that there are no weather issues, that this is being played on grass, is sunny conditions (as forecast also for next week)

So a proper try-out for grass court qualis, as intended
