Week 25 - ITF W100 - Ilkley, Great Britain (grass)

Go, Naiktha !

She wins the tiebreak 7-6(5)

She's one of my 'hard done by for not having grass' candidates

But, tbh, the others have done SO well that even if Naiktha, and Allegra, and Sally etc, get short-changed, I'll still be well pleased

Well done - superb drive volley on match point

And there's one of my 'pure grass courters' just enjoying making me look a fool

Which is A1 fine !

(Even Isa, who was another one and lost, did far better than I'd expected)

It is a shame for sure. The grass is in super nick but from memory they only cover centre court, or so I understand. The indoor courts are quick at Ilkley though so if any of our girls have a big serve and decent flat ground shots, they may stand a chance of an upset?

I was thinking mainly of players like Allegra and Sally, who are there on the back on good form on grass and aren't our 'normal' players

And Hep who has quite a sneaky game on grass

And Naiktha

And Isa Lacy too, who's shown very good grass pedigree

I'm not sure a quick indoor court is the same for them

However, we've got other players who have obviously been playing on hard courts recently, but - presumably - so have their opponents

So, it all came to pass.....

Our grass court players indeed all lost (bar Naiktha - go, girl !)

Although, tbh, my hopes might have been rather optmistic but at least they were hopes

BUT the others did indeed come through - in spades !!!!

And more than made up for it

Excellent day overall in Ilkley biggrin

That Stoiber Inglis result is insane.

Cut is quite high and most girls are in Birmingham or need to hedge their bets in case of rain for playoffs. I don't know if EWS signed in with someone but she wasnt going to get a wildcard.
