Week 25 - ITF W100 - Ilkley, Great Britain (grass)

Wowzer

QR1: (qWC) Ella McDonald (age 18) WR 807 def. (q6) Sijia Wei (CHN) WR 196 6-2 6-3

Really enjoyed that

And, as above, Ella playing a LOT more positively (although it has to be admitted that the Chinese woman played surprisingly badly)

Great start.

I liked Ellas game in juniors so surprised shes taken a while to get going but with the title and now this she seems to be boosting her confidence.

And both got broken at the start of the second

But both broke back at about the same moment

Ella is really playing a lot more better than she was last year when it had become so 'pushy' in terms of tennis

Great to see her at the net a bit too

Ella has been playing a lot of doubles this year - must give her a lot of confidence at the net.

Yes. She didn't come in often but evey time she did (that I saw) she won the point, and decisively too - the sort of point that leaves your opponent feeling really down smile

Lauryn also wins 6-3 7-5 smile

And brilliant follow up win by Lauryn

Which - in my opinion - was a harder match

Her opponent buckled down and really tried to make a good match of it

But some of Lauryn's court craft is just great, as it always was

What a start to the morning

Well done to both.
Onwards and upwards girls.
Am I right in saying that Ella is Scotlands main singles player nowadays?
Maia obviously focuses more on doubles, and Im not sure what is happening with Anna Brogan. Does anybody have any ideas what Annas plans are with her tennis?

Isa had a set point in the first set

And, tbh, was playing a lot better than her last match

So some positives there too

How many screens have you (or others) got going? We've got Ilkley, Birmingham, jack draper, Nottingham to keep an eye on?!

I know, I know... it's a challenge
I haven't seen any of the men's ilkley matches
And didn't catch any of Billy v Charlie
But I've managed all the others
AND mpetshi perricard s third set

Fabulous results really, shame none of them were on grass but lets take the wins and the points!
