Week 25 - ITF W100 - Ilkley, Great Britain (grass)

She has now beaten 3 players who will be in the qualifying draw at Wimbledon, so it is a shame she won't be there.

Hopefully Sonay wins her match and is promoted to MDWC, leaving Ella free to take a QWC (I know it's only one tournament, but you can't argue with 4 wins in a row on grass).

Shes done well our Ella. Thinking back to when she got to number 8 in the juniors in January 2023, it takes some tenacity and grit to haul yourself up to 640 WTA but still 13 points behind Hannah K. Shows how tough this transition phase is IMO.

 There are ways and means.

One option is if she wins the tournament or if another Brit gets upgraded

thats exactly what Ella seems to be doing ( transitioning ) and its really good to see her come through her Phase where she could barely get a win.

I think this tournament has shown the difference between being a talented junior and a pro player as mimi and Hannah seemed to find it quite tough yesterday.

it will be good to see how she gets on tomorrow

And it probably wont be the last. I didnt see the match but it sounds similar to when she played the Italian girl at Nottingham.

I see a lot of similarities between Marni  and Jodie

Marni Has the attributes to play at the highest level, however she may never make it there unless she starts to read what is going on in her matches.

Ella, indeed now live ranked 640 on 64  points, is just 2 points behind Hannah, live ranked 623 on 66 points, as per live-tennis and OER and my sums too.

Ranah is now live ranked 600 on 72 points.

Ella didn't have much of a rest as Marino raced through her match in 51 minutes with 15 aces.

Back on court
Ella 2-2* Ponchet

Ah, I hadn't realised that it could / should have been Ella vs Marni for a place in the SF.

Hope Ella has enough energy left to give it a real go.

Ella misses a set point at *5-4 and lose it 5-7.

Some missed opportunities today that's for sure

I didnt realise that Ella and Sonay would be back out playing today.

I see what you mean about ponchets groundstrokes they remind me of the paddles on a pinball machine.
