Feel a little sorry for Edgbaston in its last year as a WTA event. A decent field, but a lack of stories if Harriet loses as expected. It has definitely been Nottingham's poorer cousin.
But there's no way you are going to have three weeks of title contending performances.
Yup that's Katie out 3-6 retired. Chance she may just slip out the Wimbledon seedings I think.

Looks like there are 6 players beneath her who could overtake her this week - but they are in Berlin or Birmingham so only one or two could do it.
I think Krejcikova, Mertens and Fernandez will all pass her?
Interesting that they've scheduled Eden and Sam for doubles as the only QF playing tomorrow (and before one of the first rounds plays). That would signal to me Eden is, understandably, not getting a Wimbledon qualifying wildcard and needs to get to sign-in for the play-offs. I believe decisions were made today and players have been informed ahead of announcement tomorrow.

Yes, I think those three may well pass her. Krejcikova needs a SF, Mertens needs a SF and Fernandez a QF - all are possible from the draw. The other three I spotted were Kudermetova (needs Berlin final), Bouzkova (needs the title here) and Xinyu Wang (needs Berlin final).
I'm pretty sure Eden will be in the play-offs - but presumably she'd only need to get there to play on Thursday - signing in by phone must be possible

I'm not surprised. It was obvious on Sunday that she wasn't well and I was hoping she would withdraw and rest this week. I wonder how much pressure the LTA put on our girls to play these events?
I didnt realise she might lose her seeding spot - perhaps she was hoping a few more points could sure it up, rather than just the pressure of being a Brit (also possible!) as otherwise I was baffled why she was playing.

According to open Era live rankings Mertens is currently 12 points behind Katie, Fernandez 16 and Krejcikova 23 points behind. Maybe I'm reading it incorrectly? Seems quite possible that two of those would overtake Katie. All the others are too far behind really unless they make the final/win etc. as you say.
Heather played very well today but really blew it in those last few games. An example of a player not used to winning that many matches of late against good opponents. Just too many unforced errors at key moments.
You aren't reading it wrong. The potential points for each round are shown on the right which is whee I picked out the rounds they need to reach. It's the points which are or are not counters that make it complcated (eg Mertens points from Birmingham are a non-counter as she has several 60 point counters so needs to better that)
I have seen people say that it can better to be unseeded than seeded 25-32, as those seeded 25-32 will definitely play seeds 1-8 in the third round. Appreciate this means you could be drawn against Rybakina or Sabalenka in the first round!
