As a guide, Ajdukovic played and lost 7-6 6-4 to Paul Jubb last week in Nottingham opening match. Arthur seems to be tracking that score pretty closely right now, with the first set 6-4.

Important match for Arthur, therefore, not just for this week but also in terms of potential wild card - a loss would presumably place him behind Paul, a win would keep him in with a shout?

I think Arthur will be ahead of Paul whatever.

Anyway, into a second set TB, 6-4 6-6 (*2-1)

Well, he got the win, so that is good, 6-4 7-6

I think he would be , yes, but a loss wouldnt have helped or looked good on the optics.

Yes, good to get the win but I do very much doubt that comparative results against one particular player was ever likely to effect things much at all. Arthur was IMO likely to be ahead of Paul whatever.

It seems to me Arthur has stagnated this season

Maybe not, but as the week progresses, if Paul was to do better than Arthur , things could change and I do think they are both in competition (with Ryan, Jan, Charlie) for those final slots - sure there will be a pecking order that we all have in mind based on rankings, recent form, etc but this week could still change that order of things. So I think it is an important win for Arthur.

He has been injured for a lot of it, no?

Paul has already lost pretty comprehensively in Queen's qualifying.

Yeah, he got injured in January, was out almost two months, retired on his first event back and cam back April. So not so much stagnating as coming back from injury.

His year end ranking was nearly 30 places lower than he is now, so he is moving forward in the rankings. He had a great year end last year in challengers, getting to the finals etc of a few and doing really well, but his injury took Q1 out of the equation for him this year and he is only just back.

Still think today was an important win and a good win, he should be pleased with that and can have a free swing against Lloyd Harris.

Ok, hadnt seen that, or more likely didnt remember that! Nonetheless, I guess what I am saying is that there a few players vying, Arthur is one of them and a win does his changes no harm at all. But, yes, maybe Paul's chances are slipping away, given that loss at Queens!

Are there seriously seven French players in the OoP today?

Seems excessive

Wonder if the LTA gets subs from the FFT.....if not, they should ask for them !

Charlie doing well so far against Kukushkin - show the LTA Charlie!

Kukushkin has played Fery, Jubb, Harris (twice) on grass recently, must be improving his English vocabulary very well off the back of those and this!

This'll fan the flames of the Wimbledon wild card for Charlie debate:

L32:  (SE) Charles Broom WR 235 (= CH) defeated Mikhail Kukushkin (KAZ) WR 131by 7-6(2) 6-1  biggrin

Another good win from Charlie. A few more wins this week and he might just ask the question.

I hope he does ask the question! Presumably the LTA have left the left spot open with Ilkley in mind, and why not Charlie, lets show them!
