 Very good effort

He's only 16

As I pointed out when I posted the draw.

Oh SC! Thing is , people dont read back in threads, some do, most dont. So perfectly good point to make , by Cd, and good for you to raise it when you initially wrote out the draw, also.

Also bears repeating I would've thought.

Loffhagen lost 6-2 6-3 and Clarke has just lost 6-3 7-5. However, McHugh has raced through the first set 6-1.

 oh yes!

Its been dry where I am since around 1pm though, so not sure if Ilkley has dried up ( I am around 15 miles away) this afternoon, but the courts are uncovered apart from the main show courts and so could well be very damp still

Arthur appears to be due on court at 1030, quite early - hope the grass is dry from overnight. It is dry in these parts today in terms of the air, cloudy but no sign of rain just yet, so hopefully they will get underway quite quickly

Early play is indeed underway, Arthur on court and Lily on court in the womens.

It was terribly close, barely nothing in it, and then Arthur broke just at the last minute, and took the first set

Duje then banged his racket into the ground - and got a warning

When he mouthed off (a little) to the umpire, the umpire told him primly:

'it costs so much money to make these courts, that's why we have to be very strict'

As a guide, Ajdukovic played and lost 7-6 6-4 to Paul Jubb last week in Nottingham opening match. Arthur seems to be tracking that score pretty closely right now, with the first set 6-4.

Important match for Arthur, therefore, not just for this week but also in terms of potential wild card - a loss would presumably place him behind Paul, a win would keep him in with a shout?

I think Arthur will be ahead of Paul whatever.

Anyway, into a second set TB, 6-4 6-6 (*2-1)
