Boys & Girls: Tennis Europe Under 14 Junior International Raynes Park (formerly Roehampton) - Category 1 (Week 24)

This is the one Tennis Europe event on grass, providing one qualifier in each case for the Wimbledon Invitation event. Top Brits are playing here (it earns good points towards TE rankings) regardless of whether they have already qualified for Wimbledon (Niall Pickerd-Barua, Aran Selvaraasan, Daniella Britton and Megan Knight).  The first two could meet in the quarter-finals of the boys draw.  The girls draw is weaker, with just one top tenner, who plays Liv Zingg in round 1.  Full draws are available here while the LTA provides this view of the new venue

Do you note on the site it says:

Lexus Junior International Raynes Park (formally Roehampton)

I guess the guys at the LTA are not the best at spelling (unless Raynes Park's grown-up, formal name is Roehampton )

NB This is also in the 'other events' for this week but can be ignored there

Rosie Cho did extremely well, beating the second seed 1 & 2. Other winners over seeds were Katie Randall, Radostina Shopover, Anna Wright (against Daisy Wootton), Jan Janda and Haqim Kamal. Our 4 who have qualified for Wimbledon also progressed

Just to note that Dani Britton beat Khadija Adeniran, the 2023 U12 finalist in the GB national championships

She seemingly used to play for the USA, then played for GBR, and now is back playing for the USA....

She has always been USA. She was in the national championships last year because the requirement was to have British nationality which - probably unintentionally - left it open for dual nationals to play under a non-GB flag. The LTA have closed that loophole this year so to play in any of the national championships players have to have British nationality and be registered with TE/ITF as GBR if they have a TE/ITF registration.

How brilliantly out of touch, out of date and womderfully short-sighted of the LTA to think that British nationality means British tennis (because if you were British, why on earth would you ever choose to play for anyone else? - rather like the supposed old newspaper headline: Fog in Channel - Continent Cut Off' - thank you, absolutely made my day )

Megan vs Rosie is an interesting match up and so is Eric vs Stan. Let's hope Eric can get through so he still has a chance of U14 Wimbledon. Btw is this tournament open to spectators? Was planning to maybe go and watch later in the week?

I don't know whether it is open to spectators. According to the fact sheet players guests had to be registered in advance - but you could send a pm to Matt_smith to see if he knows the answer.  However as a second best there are live scores available here
