Bit frustrated with Millie, she had that match. It wasn't really a case of a hard fought encounter where she just came up short.

Super from Emily and Naiktha solid as a rock again. Beth started well but Eala now running away with it.

Sad to see Katy struggling after a good week, hope she's ok

 100%

SUCH bad matchplay by Marni - really defied belief

And, yes, that was Millie's match - Linda F was there for the taking, no question

So that's 12 points each for Naiktha and Emily, yes?

Yes, and 18 to whoever wins their FQR.

I hadn't even realised they were playing each other next smile

The clue is in the spacing (or lack of it) within the draw (as promoted by SC)

Yes, when you know, you know!

I'd only looked at Peter's original one, I'm afraid

No spaces - which is fine - I go with the flow -

I was at Nottingham today and I was really disappointed with Marni.

I wasnt expecting her to do that well seeing as this was her first match on grass however her tennis level was fantastic at times.

She threw away the first set by not serving well but she still had opportunities to take the first set but more interesting was when she was 30-0 up at 4-4 in the 3rd set.

She looked like she relaxed and played a poor point where the Italian missed an easy volley by about 2 inches and Marni looked across to her coach and smiled as she was then 40-0 up.

For the next few points Marni looked far too relaxed and did not put the intensity in to give herself a chance of winning anymore points and threw away the set/match.

I have seen this happen with her before, but hopefully big lessons have been learned today.

I this sport, its never over until its over.

 Interesting, Deucebag

That's exactly how it came across on livestream - but interesting to have it confirmed live

I remember one French coach who, at key moments, used to try and drill a sort of 'think like you're a solider, your life depends on this, you MUST move, set, hit, or the war will be lost'

It might not be everyone's cup of tea - and he was coaching boys/young men so, at the risk of being sexist, maybe it suited them more -  but it really did work - there was just an added focus, an added seriousness, right at key times - whereas Marni seemed to have exactly the opposite - a sloppiness that was completely unnecessary and highly frustrating

As with anything and anyone, it's all a question of finding what works but this is a really common theme in Marni's matches and it doesn't seem to be getting any better

 Youre right CD
maybe with some consistent tournaments without injury it may help her in this department who knows. Ive seen the Italian girl play a few times before and she gets a lot of ball back at a very good pace. She also played very well today but Marni  at her best was better but she didnt maintain her best for long enough.

I like the strategy from the French coach.

Would it be anyone who we would know?

£10 tickets for tomorrow and car parking available.

Tickets are £10 for tomorrow and the carpark at the front was busy

No, just a normal regional level coach, who trained the top group of regional players age 13-19

But it's very interesting

Again, aimed at younger players but surprisingly effective, I remember the regional sports psych. trainer for the 9-13 year olds telling them all to think of themselves as balloons before they went on court. They had to be beautiful, round, properly blown up balloons. Not floppy, half-deflated balloons. And NOT balloons SO full of air they were about to pop. Just lovely firm perfect balloons.

One of the boys who went on to be an ATP player said years later, that he still thought of that sometimes, when he got a bit overexcited before an important match, not to be TOO blown up so he might pop, just a perfect balloon biggrin
