Week 24 - WTA250 - Nottingham, Great Britain Grass

Jeez Harriet isn't getting much luck of late.

Main draw is out - with one truly awful match

R1:- Yuriko Lily Miyazaki (GBR) WR133 v Qualifier

R1:- Heather Watson (GBR) WR154 [WC]v Kayla Day (USA) WR99

R1:- Harriet Dart (GBR) WR90 v Katie Boulter (GBR) WR28 [3]

R1:- Francesca Jones (GBR) WR259 [WC] v Caroline Dolehide (USA) WR60 [6]

R1:- Emma Raducanu (GBR) WR205 [WC] v Qualifier

Awful ? You say that but it is interesting and theyve got to win regardless of nationality. I think its intriguing tbh!

And another super top-200 win for Emily Appleton

Again, in two sets

As PaulM said, Harriet isn't having a lot of luck this year, and there were many spots in the draw that are a lot better. EG one section has Lin Zhu #7 and THREE qualifiers.

I'd much prefer not to be intrigued about it in the first round of a home grass WTA event where they wiould both have reasonable expections to do well and in the short term have a load of points to defend.

Well, there's a very consistent thread to be drawn here ..... both Naiktha and Emily Appleton post excellent grass court wins, for the second week running

And Marni and Millie have lost (both of them having every chance against their opponents - Linda F looked positively amazed to have actually won a match)

Wildcard committee should take this on board

Understand - I guess I just look at it from a different angle, not really as a fan of the players more as a follower of British tennis without any real attachment. So, hence, it is a very interesting draw to me - but I see your point, obviously I do.

Of those in the main draw, none of the other Brits can meet before the QF's.

So that's 12 points each for Naiktha and Emily, yes?

Yes, and 18 to whoever wins their FQR.

Sam tries to serve out the match - for a huge win - and hits two doubles faults :(

I hadn't even realised they were playing each other next smile

It was actually quite impressive how Marni managed to lose the 4-4* game in the final set from 40-0* up. Some staggeringly bad decision making and shot execution.

Bit frustrated with Millie, she had that match. It wasn't really a case of a hard fought encounter where she just came up short.

Super from Emily and Naiktha solid as a rock again. Beth started well but Eala now running away with it.

Sad to see Katy struggling after a good week, hope she's ok

Bravo, Sam !!!!

It was looking really dodgy towards the end - but receiving for the match is always easier than serving for it

Brilliant couple of last passing shots

And that's her ranking back, then?

Our 36 year-old grand dame of tennis
