I thought that there would be more comment on the Katie/Emma match? An absorbing set of tennis between two leading Brits in a WTA semi final. Katie seemed to be trying to win the points the more and her winner count was far higher if what flashed up on the screen was correct. She didn't get over the line though and I feel Emma's game is the one that has more to give today? Not brave enough to call it but whoever the victor is, I hope that they have enough left for a final. The chance for Katie successfully defending her title or Emma picking up her first since the US Open.....a defeat would feel a real anti-climax from what has once again been a good tournament for the Brits
I have Katie as 5 aces, 3 dfs, 13 unreturned 1st serves, 2 unreturned 2nd serves, 19 other winners, 19 unforced errors, 4 aggressive shots that forced errors. Emma 2 aces, 2 dfs, 11 unreturned 1st serves 1 unreturned 2nd serve, 6 other winners, 6 unforced errors, 10 aggressive shots that forced errors.
Both players' first serve percentage is above their average for the tournament and for the season, Katie's season average going into Nottingham was 55.3%, two of her matches 55.7% and 57.7%, one match sustained a similar figure to first set 68.6%.
Emma's groundstrokes have been cautious this week and her drop shots dreadful, barely been seen at the net. Does show the value of serving reasonably well. Hoping she will play a more expansive game by the time she gets to Wimbledon.
Only Katie matches I've watched this year are little bits of Frech and this one, so no idea how it compares to her typical level.

Will be interesting to see who prevails. Really depends upon Katie's serve for me. She has a great first serve and top class forehand but I thought Emma had the better of the longer rallies yesterday. Not sure if the stats actually back this up though?
Katies' been at a high level most of the year and has improved a huge amount but her net play could be better at times and if she's rushed on her backhand that seems to be a slight weakness.
Wasnt that impressed with Pliskova, Katie or Emma should beat her...
Katie is 2-2 against Pliskova - both wins on grass. Emma hasn't played her. I agree that either can beat her as she hasn't looked that good in the bits I have seen this week.
Quite a few errors coming from Emmas forehand. For me this has always been her weakness.
She can do a lot of very good stuff with it, but if you make her play on it, the mistakes can come.
I think Katie has cottoned onto this.
