RE: Week 24 - WTA250 - Nottingham, Great Britain Grass

Its a long way to go before we get there but the prospect of an Emma vs Fran 1/4 final is interesting. I am sure that Emma would start favourite but I dont think many on here would bet against Fran in any situation wink

If Emma makes it through to R2, Snigur looks in fantastic form. An excellent grass court player.

Seriously? Snigur get well outplayed by Mandlik last week at Surbiton - lost in two sets, I think

Interestingly Snigur also lost to Mandlik last year in Nottingham qualifying, before beating the No. 2 in the first round as a lucky loser. So history has repeated itself.

Wasn't John McEnroe the original "superbrat"?

People who throw around words like misogynist at every situation don't like facts like this, shame on you!

Using John McEnroe as some kind of 'gotcha' isn't the argument you think it is.

You've really showed yourself up there.

People love watching Poots, Ostapenko, Serena - brattishness as entertainment is not exclusive to the men! Not personally a fan, but some are.

Harriets challenge is she doesnt have warmth while doing it, and Ive defended her before as its not her fault shes not a marketable personality, shes not a pop star. Doesnt mean shes not perfectly pleasant when not playing. Also doesnt mean she should have a free pass when she kicks off as she is wont to do.

I take it that was directed at me since I used the term. Actually if you read the passage back I said the term 'Karen' was horribly misogynistic not brat. Them's the facts.

Also, I'd like you to show where I have used the word misogynistic at every situation? I won't hold my breath...

Watched Emma win yesterday and thought she played a solid match. I was a little surprised that she played entirely from the baseline and I dont think she came to the net even once. She is a good volleyer and was playing against someone who is basically a doubles player and didnt look very proficient from the back of the court. Im probably being over critical and the main thing was to win but hopefully she incorporates some net play including a few serve volley points taking advantage of her first serve which is a weapon.

Heavy defeat for Lissey and Freya against the top seeds 1 & 0. But although they were well behind on total points they did attempt to compete but didn't take their chances scoring 0/6 on break points against 6/6 for the top 10 pair.

Have to say, I know it was tough opposition and the scoreline was perhaps a tiny bit worse than they deserved, I've not seen any evidence in their previous performances that this pairing is really clicking. Hopefully it will come.

Freya needs to find a different partner. Lissey does not - IMO - have the game or the sort of character that Freya needs as a partner

Katie wins 6-4 6-3. Not in the best form though with some JoKo style horror drop shots. But will hopefully improve as she goes on

Yes, Katie seemed relatively routine in that match. Marino has power but is pretty rooted to the spot - she doesn't move well - and Katie was on top of that.

Yeah she was 3-0 *40-0 up in the second and got broken, but generally was pretty within herself. Marino was quite messy off the ground and gave Katie a lot of a cheap points, welcome after the grind in round 1.
