To be fair I haven't seen too much from her before, but to me, her game looked perfect for grass - was hitting winners from every part of the court, and Kostyuk didn't do too much wrong other than have a poor serving day... am hoping it was an over-performance!
If Emma makes it through to R2, Snigur looks in fantastic form. An excellent grass court player.
Seriously? Snigur get well outplayed by Mandlik last week at Surbiton - lost in two sets, I think
Actually it was two tie-break sets and there wasn't a lot between them. I watched a few games and couldn't predict the outcome. Perhaps you were thinking of the next round where Minnen beat Mandlik 2 & 2

Just again, Harriet may be a little testy and a bit cold but Kelly Rask had a nightmare of a match, truly embarrassing even
And what on earth was Jane Harvey doing, saying, OK Harriet I'll ask your coach shall I? (About Harriet s linecalls)
She might have been trying to be jokey but it so so wrong - and she's the one in charge
They should both take a big look in the mirror

No, I thought the first set was pretty one-sided, despite the score
And the second could well have been Snigur s but she sort of collapsed - almost seed to be crying at one point
Shibahara raised her game at 1-6 1-5 down and broke Emma twice before Emma wrapped it up 6-1 6-4. Shibahara switched to all out attack using her doubles skills at serve and volley and it had Emma worried for a while.

Personally, I think that bit extra competition in the second set will have done Emma a power of good.

I agree. Sometimes you can win too easily. It made Emma have to dig a little deeper. She got the win and looks fit and healthy. So already a positive week just seeing her back in action.

Had me worried too. Just when we thought she was going to wrap it up in under an hour. It's great she won but I thought Emma wobbled as much as Shibahara raised her game.
