Well Katie doing her best to throw this away.

Well, she well and truly scraped that one, not very convincing at all on what is one of her best surfaces. Hope she improves in round 2.

Might have been the dread of losing 1st round as defending champion (as well as conditions)but now thats out of the equation she might relax a bit now

Sensible from Boulter to beat her chest rather than tap her temple after match point was secured.

Very pleased with this outcome, was not enamoured with Darts conduct towards the ball kids at Eastbourne a few years back, and I dont believe it to have been a momentary lapse. Also the points can be put to far better use by Katie.

Is it ok to be slightly disappointed at missed opportunities this week.

A second round match between Birrell (who Appleton might have beaten) and Stefanini (who Banks should have beaten). Fruhvirtova in 2nd round, having beaten 3 Brits (Rajecki, Murray -Sharan) all of whom might have won.

I think Boulter's win over Dart is a better result for British tennis, as she has the ability to cement a place in the Top 30, and hopefully joined by Raducanu at some stage. But not great that we could have only one Top 100 player after Nottingham.

Harriet threw that match away. Katie didn't play well.
I've not seen Harriet that stroppy before, she is the female equivalent of Dan Evans now....she was never like that in her younger days and I watched her live quite a bit

Yes I think it is. Lily had opportunities and Emily will be disappointed to have not played better. Last year the girls took the chances that fell and we had a phenomenal tournament. This year the equivalent chances have rather been missed.

I thought she was worse than Dan.  it almost made me dislike her, whereas Dan is exasperating  and  predictably tedious at times  he remains likeable.

Were you there?

Katie looking fairly safe now.

My last comment on this is that it's possible for a player to be acting like a brat and for the umpire to be wrong and/or handling a situation badly. I think that's what's happened here.

Have to hope if Harriet at least can keep the high level she has shown at many points today the wins will come eventually.

It is odd to me she doesn't have a coach in her corner, just her boyfriend (who is not a hitting partner or coach). Who is she working with just now normally?

Wasn't ahe working with Nigel Sears before? IIRC someone on here said he expressed exasperation at her behaviour at Surbiton last year.
