Week 24 - ATP Challenger 125 - Rothesay Open - Nottingham, Great Britain (grass) - singles

Not sure the practice courts are in action today. Billy and Jacob hitting on a match court but sharing it with Marcus and John Peers.

Katie B followed Emma onto another court, both just hitting with coaches.

EWS in Gabi Dabrowskis corner.

Putting aside how well Charlie has done, Dan losing is almost as bad as Cam against Jack PJ earlier in the week. Really worrying results for both of them.

I watched a bit on challenger TV and Dan really didn't want to be there. Come Wimbledon, or Queens if it stops raining fingers crossed he'll remember how good he can be.

Yeah, just read someone tweeting that also. Hope thats the case!

Sounds like Dan was a bit hacked off at having to go indoors and wasn't up for the fight. Which is a shame. But important points for Charlie.

Greg Rusedski actually won the Nottingham Open one year when the final was held indoors. Sometimes you have to roll with the punches.

Dan is badly in need of any points at the moment, with 500 points to drop off from Washington this summer. In some respects, I could have seen him skipping the Olympics to try and protect some of the points, which either means he's considering the possibility of winding down his career, or the pull of representing his country is too strong. It could very well be the latter.

Think he should follow Emmas strategy if he sees himself playing for another couple of years?

Delighted as I am to see Charles doing so well this week I'd prefer to see Billy win.  He's been working so hard at this level for a long time now and it would be a lovely reward for his efforts to finally make a final, or even win the tournament.

Charles sweeping all before him, set and a break up on Billy

A fantastic week for both players, sadly can only be one winner hmm. Allegedly Charlie comes from comfortable background, but parents arent super wealthy. Mother, Jenny is a massive driving force and has pushed. Charlie to be a tennis player from very young,  she is  also a tennis coach. Parallels with Andy and Judy??  Charlie is also super bright and the college route suited him perfectly.
Hoping for an all college final biggrin

Broom must have improved since I saw him Glasgow in Feb. He played Aidan McHugh and won but both of them were pretty average on the day.

So who had the foresight to pick Charlie for the top 10 this year?
