Week 24 - ATP Challenger 125 - Rothesay Open - Nottingham, Great Britain (grass) - singles

Really good win for Jake, sad Paul had to lose earlier than he would have liked but great to see Jake making a name on a televised stage!

Excellent match

It is one of the joys of tennis seeing players you first saw at age 16 or so, suddenly out there, really making their mark on the big stage

Agreed. I remember him and Connor Thomson coming up together. Connor got a wildcard into the Wimbledon doubles last year but hasn't been around much in 2024 - anyone know why?

I never rated Conor as much, though. Jakes always seemed a cut above and the far more interesting player.

But the two are defending doubles champions here, of course

I don't know quite where he is at the moment

(or indeed Toby Samuel who's another one I never really rated and probably was completely wrong biggrin

Got there in the end! Some impressive play there - maybe Jake up for a Wimby wildcard?

Certainly into qualies. But you could also argue he should play the wild card play-offs. A good final US collegiate season, but this is his first senior event in a while.

Wildcards are there for balance. If it basically went by ranking, we wouldn't need wildcards.

And what an amazing match point by Billy - you can't get any better than that !

And Dan v Henry was/is pure entertainment - SO SO close..... but first set by a whicker to Dan

I couldn't find one, but I caught a glimpse on the TV of something large, round & bright pink wandering about among the crowd when the camera pulled away from the centre court, a bit like the whole Wensleydale in the picture below:

New-wave Wensleydale: Yoredale

Then again, my old eyes could easily have been playing tricks on me!

Connor Thomson still appeared to be playing for South Carolina last year but can find very little about him online compared with Samuel, Fearnley and Monday.

Agree completely, but don't think unreasonable to be based on multiple events.

It was actually Fearnley and Monday who won Nottingham doubles last year.

Billy converts this into a straight sets win 3 & 4

No idea, but it would have scared the heebie-jeebies out of me too.
