An enjoyable day at Surbiton. I saw bits of several matches and caught up with a few players I know.
Emily played very well after a slow start and deserved her win.
Millie ran Gadecki close but faded just a little at the end.
Naiktha looked very comfortable.
Tomljanovic was easily the best player out there today.
I didn't see Lauryn and Ranah's doubles - it started and finished earlier than the others.
Berh and Tara should have won in straight sets from 4-1 up, but let it slip away. Tara looks a little rusty but a few more matches will cure that and her experience showed. Beth played very well, particularly serving.
The big crowds were watching Harriet/Greet v Lissey and Freya. These two doubles matcges were on adjacent courts and it wasn't easy to watch both. Freya seemed to be targeted constantly and dealt with it very well for the most part, but in the end the rankings didn't lie although it was closer than the score might suggest.
I was at Surbiton for some of today ( a bit back and forth)
And apologies, but being a grumpy git, I didn't try to meet up with anyone
But, agree, there was some excellent tennis - and, as an aside, SO busy, with ticket prices up yet again, so why oh why they want to cancel the event - it's a crying shame
I was surprised to see Jez Bates (boo, hiss ) watching Emily's match (not so surprised that he wanted to safeguard his benchseat, even though he wasn't using it, and seemed somewhat put out when a 'disabled' man didn't really take no for an answer and took it - which made me smile )
And, yes, he was joking and kidding around with Sonay too - well, that's your career down the toilet, Sonay, but don't say I didn't warn you
Emily played a dream match though - some super serving at clutch points, some great pick-ups, she really had to dig SO deep to win the first set - and the whole match was played in the first set - if the Canadian had won it, I'm sure she'd also have won the second
Millie had a hard ask and wasn't a million miles off
Naiktha looked pretty 'light' in her shots - her dad was there, very vocal - but Naiktha was a bit all over the place, I thought. However, she managed to see it out, and deserved the win.
Understandable, but still a shame that Katy has been put on centre court tomorrow - I only have a ground pass. I reckon she's in with a good chance.

I did wonder if it was worth trying to smile and sweetalk the people 'guarding' the centre court entrances
Sort of: 'there's lot of spare seats, would you mind dreadfully if I slipped in to watch, I'll leave at once if anyone wants the seat....'
That sort of thing?
And, to be honest, Dan Evan's mid-afternoon match may get quite a good turnout of ticketed people, but Katy Dunne's? At lunchtime? There's got to be lots of empty seats, surely?
