Weeks 22+23 - Roland Garros men’s singles main draw

Mauresmo has been a disaster. Its not just this year, but last year her handling of simple incidents of was pathetic. For example, they could respond quickly to banning alcohol but not to having womens matches in the evening session? Or to address the Ukraine/Russia handshake issue? Im not a fan of evening sessions but having one womens match in 2 years when you have doubles matches you can compliment them with (which has happened when necessary with mens matches in she rain) is absolutely pathetic.

Apparently Zverev has settled out of court with his ex GF around the assault charge but with no admission of guilt as part of it - ie he is making it go away before it plays out in public.

Mmm.

Mauresmo excoriated by Stu Fraser in today's Times.  Do you feel vindicated, Doonan?  wink  An interesting analysis of what might be termed the underlying economics of the organisers' approach.  Includes the point made by CD, I think on another thread, about the Swiatek/Osaka "thriller" & Doonan's solution for the evening session of a women's match followed by a second doubles slot to address their fears that a solitary women's singles match could easily be wrapped up in an hour.  Mr Fraser also has a pop at Amazon's coverage.

Looks like it was some semi.

Alcaraz versus Zverev in the final. Part of me thinks Zverev has a good chance to win this but Alcaraz probably goes in favourite.

The problem with the Women playing in the evening session is that we had a L16 match double bagel. Yes the Osaka/Swiatek match was fabulous but without a crystal ball it's a bit of a crapshoot picking a Women's match that will be competitive. It's a shame but until there is a bit of consistency on the Women's side then it will either remain the same or people that paid a lot of money for seats will rarely get their moneys worth.

Emmsie I agree. Some of the matches on the womens side have been a wash out. I am not sure whether it is consistency but more top class rivalries in the top 30. You always feel with the mens game that even a player in the 100s can put up some stiff opposition. Have to say therefore, more strength in depth needed. However on a positive note on Naomi, good to see her so happy practising on grass this week on Insta, we need her back to her best.

Yes, you can believe 100% in equality. In theory and in practice. Heart and soul.

But if you sold one-match tickets, telling buyers in advance that this is for a women's QF and this is for a men's QF, we know that the women's ticket would sell for a lot less (based on what WTA TV rights are priced at, compared with ATP TV rigthts which are directly comparable)

Now, it's all very well saying that might be partly the authorities' fault (for poor marketing?) but it would be rather high-handed to tell people they've got it wrong

So, it's a tricky situation but I'm not so against Amélie in this regard (every other one, yes, biggrin) and I don't think that a doubles match tacked on is necessarily a solution and most definitely not a Legends doubles match - heaven help)

I dont know if it is possible but on clay, starting at say 10.30 a two match session of mens and womens singles and then a second evening session starting at 6.30 of one mens and womens singles should surely be do able. Yes, that could be 7 hours of play at an outside but the 1030 session would be over in time for the evening.

That would surely be fine for all?

They got rid of that idea because, supposedly, the deal from Amazon Prime was far more profitable if they did one night match (men only effectively)

With a strict 11pm curfew enforced by the council I think night sessions are a non-runner at Wimbledon

Money isn't working particularly well in regards to the golf club development dragging on as it has been.

Well, anyway, main thing is things develop and times move on, and Im sure that will be the case with Wimbledon as well.

Wimbledon always has moved on. So many developments over the last half century, and they continue to be ambitious.
