We used to hold clay court tournaments in Bournemouth, it's a nice venue, perhaps we should bring them back to give the younger players an introduction to clay court competition.

It was an ok event but held in April and it snowed last time it was played. It was also what we called red shale, I was never sure how different it was to clay but my dad always told me it was slightly faster and slippier.

nonetheless, yes, we should have and maybe at challenger or 25 level.

It used to be a 10K event. It was some years ago but I remember seeing Katy Dunne, Liam Broady and Sam Murray there.

before that it was The British Hardcourt champs and the first ever Opem tennis event in 1968. ATP tour ran the equivalent of a 250 event there on and off until late 80s I think it would be

I have much better faith in the likes of Mimi and Hannah, and hopefully Emma having better clay court careers. KB has shown she can play on the surface, and would be great to see a R3 from her in the future. She would have beaten a lot of other opponents yesterday. For the likes of Harriet and Jodie, being in the top 80 or so is a great achievement - so I dont hold clay court results against them, and would rather see success on all other surfaces.

Bournemouth has changed surface from red shale to green clay. The British Hardcourts were held on shale through 1983. The courts were resurfaced around 1994/95. A WTA event was held in May in 1995, and an ATP event was held in September from 1996-99. Both were only moderately successful.

Bradfield Tennis Centre - just west of Reading. The fact sheet on the ITF tournament page has a link to google maps.

And 5-1 down in the 3rd. Good effort to take a set off the 2nd seeds

Katie is an absolutely terrible doubles player. I know they want Olympics practice but Heather should really have sorted herself a better partner for here. If they are playing the grass together Heather is missing a huge opportunity to get her doubles ranking up a notch.

I couldn't agree more

I remember seeing all our girls playing when they were about 19 or so

And remarking that Harriet looked very comfortable on a doubles court

And that Katie was SO ill at ease and, basically, poor

Nothing's changed

And, yes, Hev is a numbskull not to try and find herself a crack doubles partner
