So frustrating. On the one hand Katie produced a level of clay court tennis well above what we've seen. On the other, she had the match and the chances, but when the moments came she didn't deliver. A horror smash attempt, huge double and dumped forehand into the net end it.
Credit to Badosa. But gosh Katie probably should have snuck through in two.

Pretty unwatchable ..... yes, she played quite well at times. But never looks up to see where the opponent is when she has a short ball, all so very tense, completely on her racket at times, just there for the taking, but no....
At least Paula is a nice person - if you're going to hand it to someone, I'm glad it's her
I saw some of the match on a rather stop-start stream. The second game in the final set, when Katie was serving to consolidate her break, she served (I think) four double faults. If only she could have won that game it could have been a different result. But that's tennis isn't it? Onto the grass ladies and gents! At least the Brits won't be able to say they haven't had enough time for grass practice.
I've mixed feelings about the two results for the GB women here. There are positives to take from both performances but ultimately it is this GB inability to adapt to playing on clay which I find frustrating and really these days inexcusable.
We have enough money in the game to develop proper clay courts in this country and to actually have proper tournaments on them.
Harriet was better than expected but it was a case of Noskova not being especially good and Harriet being quite decent that made things relatively close. Harriet's serve, as already pointed out wasn't consistent enough but her frustration boils over at times and she needs to find better ways of channeling this into better tennis where, at the moment, it seems to have the opposite effect.
Katie's match was a missed opportunity. Yes she did well and Badosa is obviously a very good clay court player but she has been out injured a lot recently and at times has looked totally disinterested on court. Katie is playing well this year and hitting the ball with a great deal of power but that isn't always going to be enough especially on clay. Hard to explain what went on when the match was there for the win but at key moments Katie just faltered with basic errors.
We used to hold clay court tournaments in Bournemouth, it's a nice venue, perhaps we should bring them back to give the younger players an introduction to clay court competition.

It was an ok event but held in April and it snowed last time it was played. It was also what we called red shale, I was never sure how different it was to clay but my dad always told me it was slightly faster and slippier.
nonetheless, yes, we should have and maybe at challenger or 25 level.

It used to be a 10K event. It was some years ago but I remember seeing Katy Dunne, Liam Broady and Sam Murray there.
