RE: Wimbledon wildcards

They have probably taken it from the appallingly written LTA news article.

"a wild card into the main draw at Wimbledon qualifying" disbelief

The LTA seem to be very poor at writing clear articles.

LTA guidance on Wimbledon WCs. Says no ranking threshold and that the LTA will give AELTC up to 8 recommendations across both main and qualifying draws.

Thanks Madadman - thats a new policy document, and in essence, leaves them free to recommend how they want! The 8 limit is interesting, given there are 17 in main and qualies in total, so do Wimbledon themselves have freedom on the other 9 or so?!

That document has been around for a few years. They just change the year and resave it every year.

Yes, it's nonsense (it's 'earned' him a quali wildcard - he can obviously still be given a MD wildcard - extremely unlikely but theoretcially possible)

But somewhat strange that Bonding hasn't got them to change it - that page is dated 30th April and he's obviously seen it

I think he's got bigger things to worry about...

Also, I doubt very much the LTA would give as few as 8 suggestions for main draw/qualifying. The idea that they choose 8 and leave the Wimbledon committee to ponder over the pros and cons of Emily Appleton versus Amelia Rajecki.

Jay And Marcus back in action together. Hoping they can gel and match their feats of beating Mahut/PHH a few years back.

What on earth has Paul Jubb done to merit a Wild Card in this years draw?

Based in current form perhaps. But Paul has been super unlucky with injuries and let's face it, a rare British non white player.

As much as I like Liam, he's only just coming back from injury and then a concussion.

The Dan/Henry doubles could be over before it gets going as well.

Ryan being a direct entrance to Qualifying and not with a MD wildcard I can sort of understand but also feel like is a bit unlucky as he was injured. However when was the last time we had a British player in qualifying without a wildcard. Cant happen that often.

Broom missing does feel wrong, especially given his current ranking. Any other year, a grass 125K British finalist would have definitely made this list. Shame for Ryan, but glad he has direct entry into qualies. I think we could have a couple of qualifiers on the mens side

Do you think that is an acceptable reason for a player (good chap though I am sure Paul is) to be awarded a £60k Wild Card over players such as Charles (great recent form) or Ryan (superb past Grass court form and also returning from injuries)?

Or Jay Clarke receiving a Qualies one (over Ryan again) when he has not even played on Grass this season?
