So who is likely from the men's side? Will Thiem sneak into the main draw or take up a wildcard - obviously not his best tournament but a popular player.
Will new Brit Oliver get a nod or maybe Paul Jubb? Will Marcus need to team up with a Brit to get into the doubles draw?
I'd be most pleased to see Jubb get a wildcard; I think he really deserves it. Hoping for a challenger run from him this week to make it easier on the selectors, and a few grass court wins.
So if it works as per past years, 3 need to be kept for challenger title winners in the grass season. Or should be at this stage.
Liam, Jan, Arthur all got them last year and should do again. Billy deserves one for sure as well.
So thats 4. They gave Goffin one last year and on that basis Id expect Thiem may get one - he meets the British interest criteria. So thats 5. I think Ryan will miss out this year and Jubby as well may need to settle for qualies - unless they can snare one of those challenger titles but I dont expect it.
Henry Searle will get a qualies wildcard as junior champ from last year, plus this years national junior champ (memories gone blank!) will get one I think for qualies. Add to that Ryan and Paul as per above, Oliver Crawford for a qualies wc as well, thats 5 of the qualies cards gone. Id think the likes of Hamish Stewart, Jo Monday, Jack PJ , Toby Samuel, Charles Broom, Giles Hussey will be fighting for the other 3 - the NCAA champ, if British, will get a qualies wild card for sure.
I think/hope Thiem will get one, the French was a shame although I understand its what they do.
Unlike the ladies I suspect some of the Brits already in the qualies will be staying there, and would we give main draw to any more of the young ones over the likes of Ryan and Crawford?
