My main draw WC list is as follows and--

Kerber Wozniaki Osaka and Venus Williams

Just a guess

Do the winners of Surbiton and Ilkley not get one still, if not already qualified?

yes that is true but there are so many former grand slam champions outside the Main Dr aw  I think that Surbiton and Ilkley winners will be ignored.

I don't think all 4 ex champs will get WCs, Venus certainly shouldn't. I'm probably in the minority here but I think Naiktha should get a qWC despite her ranking at the moment. She can play on grass and she reversed that loss this week against a player now ranked higher than she was last year. I'd say she has more chance of getting through qualifying than a few others touted.

There have never been guaranteed wild cards for men's and women's Challenger grass court winners. I have always assumed it is in the absence of any other logical candidates.

GB women's wild cards are a little complicated this year with so many having had injuries: Burridge, Jones, Kartal, Banks, Dunne, Bains. Am sure I've left someone else out.

While injuries need to be taken into account in the selection process, I also think players who have played consistently well for 12 months should be rewarded.

 Yes very complexed

Going off previous years whenever it has been this complexed, I think they normally just go off the ranking But who knows?

We can speculate as much as we want, but I think  we should start a Wimbledon wildcard prediction competition and see who comes closest.

Is there any information out about Nottingham qualification.

Im free this weekend and thinking of driving up To catch some tennis depending on whos playing

I'm really hoping Fran gets a W/C. Not only does she deserve it with her injury woes, but she is the most tenacious fighter, and as long as she doesn't face one of the top players, I expect her to put in a top performance whether win or lose. Clearly a few of Wozniacki/Kerber/Osaka/Halep will be getting WC's, so my guess is going to be Burrage (if fit), Raducanu, Miyazaki, Watson... and hopefully Fran will have her chance. I'm not sure Kartal deserves one, and would have loved to have seen Banks in the mix, but her injuries seem like it's moving her into QWC territory. I wonder if Swan is looking like she might compete for a QWC too.

Longshot, but a few withdrawals will get Emma in directly, which would be very helpful! The good news is, I think there might be some very capable players in qualifying who can win a round or two.

I think Fran is a player that the LTA should swap a WC at the French for a Wimby WC but it's so difficult with her situation to guarantee that she could even play.  Maybe worth pursuing next year though if Fran is amenable and fit.

I've noted how well Fran is received by tennis fans globally, especially as someone so far down the rankings and with a low profile. Not just for her challenges, but for her attitude when playing and her relationship with other players. There's a lot of people rooting for her to do well, and it would be such a moment for her to get a slam win, especially if she doesn't have the longest career.

I don't even know why I'm writing this; none of this is news to any of you!

Im just pondering, is there a different perspective on this other than just rankings? Should a WC or two go to those players who have improved the most in the last calendar year regardless of ranking?

+ Slam winners, particularly if they have won the tournament before (so Kerber and sadly, Halep) or sometimes those who are well received/known/retiring.

Im amazed at how much speculation and effort goes into the womens wildcard selections process on this board!

Far more competition on the Women's side at the moment.  The Men's isn't nearly as competitive. 4 are in the MD and the ones that we would be speculating about are either not playing or playing on a different surface so not showing any grass form.

ETA or playing on the grass and losing.  Emily and Naiktha have thrown their hat in the ring by getting some outstanding results at Surbiton.
