Bains is too far down the rankings to be considered for a QWC . Her only hope is the play offs unless she has a spectacular grass court season. This Surbiton is only first grass tournament of the year

Exactly - although there is only really next week to go as well as this , as the week of Ilkley/Birmingham/Queens is when the wild card play offs field needs to be determined and so it only really gives two weeks for players to stake a claim for a qualifying wild card to avoid the wild card play offs. So this week and next will certainly have an impact. But one swallow doesnt make a summer and so she needs to build on it, for sure!

Yes, Naiktha would have to do rather more for Q WC contention - but another one or two big crass court wins and she will be sending out a statement in spite of her current ranking. With Katy I doubt that she has to do anything more - I think she will get one OK.

I am a bit confused !!! The National junior champions get WCs into qualifying? Do the other juniors stand a chance or is it too stacked this year as we only seem to have Katie B and Harriet as direct entrants.

Tbf, that's a very good point re only Katie B and Harriet being Wimbledon MD DEs meaning quite a number of our top players having MD WCs.

.Then, with the knock-on effects of normally a limit on the at least initially awarded total MD plus Q British WCs, on thinking a bit more I am rather less sure that Katy D will get one. For indeed we also have a number of really good juniors who I do think will be very high on the radar.

Mmm, its not just the womens side though, what about Henry Searle? Seems a bit of a nightmare this year!

Think wild cards are a privilege rather than a right. Am sure that everyone in the Top 300 will play Wimbledon in some capacity, and beyond that it's a bonus.

For example Emily Appleton is currently ranked No. 399. Her form in Surbiton suggests she could be competitive in qualifying, but no reason for her not to play a wild card play-off. Honestly the same applies to Hannah Klugman.

A slight difficulty is players trying to play singles and doubles. For example Naiktha Baines might have to choose between wild card play-offs and main draw doubles.

I don't think Katy will get a QWC even with going deep this week. I haven't changed my mind from my initial thoughts at the beginning of this thread that all the QWCs are taken. The only thing that has changed since then is that a report on Millie Rajecki over the weekend said that she is on the Pro Scholarship Programme which, if true, brings her more into the discussion as usually the LTA will nominate to the committee most of the players on the PSP for a WC.

I think Sonay is getting a qualis wildcard, minimum
She's got Jeremy Bates, and Ian Baites, watching every ball (no interest in Fran)
The LTA can't be SO invested in her and then make her play wildcard playoffs - doesn't make sense to me, or run true with how the LTA function

But isnt Fran the highest ranked alternate?

My point was simply that Sonay is the LTA protegée - she's always talking to them, being watched by them, they're 'mates', part of a team

And so I don't believe that Sonay will be made to play wildcard playoffs - she'll be in directly somewhere

If so, we can surely take it that if current GB #7 Fran remains ranked higher, and from even fewer counters, than #8 Sonay, then she will also get a Q WC if she needs it

So WCs of some description to our 6 players GB ranked #3 to #8  ( if #3 to #6 get MD WCs ) plus however many juniors?

By the way CD, really no visible LTA interest in Fran?!

Leaving the challenges she continues to overcome to the side, this is the current GB #7 playing her first tournament on grass in a long time. Gee, have a look!
