Nothing ( again ) for Sam MS?  - who only came back last October and has got back up to WR 138 (GB #6) - or have I missed something?

Cheers. And I did see they were paired together recently.

Does Olivia (ranked 70) get in the doubles draw automatically?

Yes, Liv and Tereza, and Heather and Greet are direct entries. So we have 14 women in the draw in 8 pairs. Liv and Tereza are the highest pair on the entry list at #47 and CR128. The cut off was CR139.

Im so impressed with Sonay getting to the third round of Wimbledon. I suppose the argument could be had
that she deserved a main draw wildcard and Im sure this will be the case next year however my point in this post is more down the lines of the women who didnt really deserve a main draw wildcard.
Ive always been a big fan of Heather however shes not a Grand Slam winner and just because she got to the 4th round of this tournament I dont believe she is entitled for a wildcard every year.
I dont really know much about lily other than she has represented Great Britain for two years and she is now nearly 29 years old and didnt even get a game against Kasatkina.
Sonay has shown us this week that we need to let the youth come through and hopefully blossom.

Super again by Sonay.

But I still think at rhe time the MD WCs for Heather and Lily and Q WC for Sonay this year made sense, though I wouldn't have been averse to a MD WC for Sonay if there was room.

Largely on account of their rankings, which is not the only relevant factor but here as I say I was fine with them.

I think we should just celebrate Sonay's success. I thought she gave a good account of herself against Coco despite the scoreline. And who knows if she would have won two main draw matches if she hadn't got the success of 3 qualifying matches under her belt?

 Yes

Ifs and ands and pots and pans and all that......

she didn't get a MD WC - might have deserved one? - but she dealt with it - won her three Q matches, got some good scalps, won her first two MD matches, great wins, and gave a very creditable performance today - with the first set being really quite close

A really good tournament, at the most important time smile

My view is that Sonay did better in the main draw because she qualified rather than being gifted a main draw place. Qualifiers enter the main draw with excellent grass court practice and a sense of achievement. Wild cards have neither of these advantages-just a financial boost!

My point was more about the 3 MD wildcards that didnt really deserve it. (Hev lily and Isla) We need to be taking the same approach as Australia and as harsh as it may seem out with the old and in with the new and promote the future of British tennis.

Yes, but the only problem is that there is some luck and fortune involved - whereas the MD guarantees a chance

i.e. take Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard

Great talent, high ranking, only in qualis

Comes unstuck in the last round, and loses - unexpectedly - to Janvier

So now he's out of Wimbledon (whereas he would definitely have been given a wildcard if GB, or even if not, if there had been one going free, given he's about WR 66 now)

BUT he gets a LL spot, comes back in and wins two rounds (and still going strong)

Which he wouldn't have done as a quali player (without the LL)

So (if he were GB) would it better to give him a MD WC, as he's going to win three rounds (and counting)? Or not, and just let him play qualis, where he might have a bad match and lose and then not have the chance to win those two MD rounds ? (apart from the LL spot)
