Thanks for the replies on Ngounoue - clears that one up; winning Junior Wimbledon and then getting a wildcard is expected. i knew there must be an obvious reason - I'm smiling here that I could have forgotten that she won Junior Wimbledon. Put it down to age, I think.

We'll let you off - you can't be expected to remember everything once you reach 124
I'm raging over the Alja WC. She literally adds nothing to the tournament (that she was already in anyway) She's already had a WC from RG saving 1 SR, she's a citizen of a GS Country so has had plenty of opportunities and she's not even up and coming. If there really was no British option then atleast give it to someone young and from a non GS Country that won't get a WC any other way.

Or you could argue that she is a two time Wimbledon quarterfinalist who has just made a final of a grass court WTA event on her 4th (?!) event back? I question why the All England Club have offered her one when she was already in on an SR, but not her decision to accept it.
Wow, well, I didnt see that one coming.
Its a strange decision if you ask me, although it makes you wonder if they have done a deal with the Australian Federation for one of our girls to get a wildcard at the AO although I thought the Australians were trying to bring the new talent through and not bother about helping all of the all the older players hence not giving Rodionova a wildcard for the Australian Open even though she was their highest ranked Australian at the time.
I believe that this is the approach we should be taking as lets be honest Heathers best days are now behind her even though Ive always been a big fan and miyazaki isnt really going to do any damage in the main draw and she is now 28 years old after deciding to represent Great Britain two years ago.
The way I see it wildcards should be for up-and-coming players to give them the experience so hopefully they will be competing in main draws off their own ranking by the time they are 28 years old.
I dont agree with giving wildcards to Heather and Lily as well as Tomljanovi as they are not top top players who have got potential to get to the later rounds anymore.
Turn up , give it a go, take the cash, onto the next one.

Don't think its worth all that effort
I've had a couple of leftover Easter Swiss mini eggs and a salted caramel martini and simmered down now
Only Wimbledon could give a wild card to someone already accepted into the main draw. Although not giving a wild card would have had the same result...

It's almost as if they didn't think anyone really deserved the last WC so used Tomljanovic to effectively get rid of it.

I think that was probably the case. However you could argue that they have prevented one player from gaining direct entry to the US Open as Tomljanovic can now use her Special Ranking there.
