Entry Week 23 - 03/06/2024

Amelia didn't pull out - it was automatic withdrawal as she was entered for Portugal in singles and unconfirmed partnership in doubles.

I had wondered if Heather had entered as MDO (if that was still possible in ITFs) and that was why she was out of sync, however the list is now showing 26 numbered players and not updating to go to 27. So it makes me think she is in qualies and it's just a glitch.

Amelia withdrew from Portugal a few days ago so I wonder if getting caught by the Automatic Withdrawal at the withdrawal deadline was a mistake, she may well turn up in qualies with a wild card.

Ah, good thought re Heather being MDO. I noticed that Li's withdrawal is just marked as a withdrawal and not a "late withdrawal qualifying". The list only showing 26 is standard after someone withdraws. I think moving the next player from alternates to qualifying needs someone to do something rather than it being automatic.

Millie's focus would have been elsewhere around the withdrawal deadline, being early morning and about to play her R2 match at the NCAAs.

Very good points. MDO entries are permissible in W100 and W75 tournaments according to the rulebook. The freeze deadline is 14:00 on the Thursday before the tournament, so it should all become clearer tomorrow.

Jodie has withdrawn sadly.

Does anyone know if Surbiton hold any tickets back for on the day? I was hoping to pop by as in London for work next week but the grounds tickets for Tuesday are now sold old (there were still available last night so my own fault for not just grabbing one!)

I don't think they do hold any back. I thought they were all sold out earler in the weekbut i just checked the website and there are limited tickets available for Wednesday and Thursday (even though one age says they are sold out)

I wonder if Tara and Beth have a wild card for Surbiton doubles. Beth has made it into qualifying so there's a fair chance that they will both be there. The LTA seem to be keeping quiet about all WC's.

Heather may well not make it to Surbiton (unless she gets a MD WC). She's yet to start her doubles and mixed doubles at RG - and not on today's schedule - so Sunday qualifying is looking doubtful.

Surbiton usually suffers from a spate of late withdrawals due to players still being active in Roland Garros, allowing a bunch of lower ranked Brits into qualies, but I don't think (for good or ill) that is going to happen this year. There are very few players still competing and those who are are almost certain to lose their first round doubles matches when they get on court tomorrow or Saturday (Minnen, and French, mainly).

French has withdrawn of her own accord, but sadly so has Marni. Which is a shame as I was hoping she might start making some moves over the summer but is evidently carrying something that's bothering her.

I think Paul was right for the unnumbered out of ranking order players being MDO as Heather, Jasmine and Sofia have been automatically withdrawn at the freeze deadline.

Are they still playing? I thought Katie was already back in London.
