Week 20 - WTA125 - Paris, France (outdoor clay)

Dunno why a WTA125 pays 160 points. I'm using this out of date spreadsheet, and cant find something more current...

www.itftennis.com/media/7783/2022-wta-rankings-table.pdf

and this for Katie's upcoming deductions...

live-tennis.eu/en/forecast-wta-ranking

... so I also have her round about WR 35 in 5 weeks time, when the 280 Notts deduction kicks in.

Katie has a big chunk of points to defend between here and the Wimbledon draw (RG R2, Surbiton ITF100 SF, Notts WTA250 winner) 70+50+280 =400.

So without some further wins on clay, or right at the start of the grass season, she will likely miss out on a career first Wimbledon seeding.

She's won 29 points here already, with 160 available if she wins her next 3 matches (and so wins the tournament) That'd help.

Katie Boulter lost 2nd QUALIFYING Round at 2023 Roland Garros so won't lose 70 points.

Yes, sorry, I misread her record there. Anyway, she loses around 350 points in this table...

live-tennis.eu/en/forecast-wta-ranking

and nobody above her loses significantly more. Below her, everybody down to WR36 is due to overtake her by Week +5, except Sloane.

It's a 125 points for winning a WTA125 from the beginning of this year. The names of all tiers now represent the number of points the winner gets.

OER is much easier to use for looking at 'live' rankings for weeks beyond the current week.

Thanks Lambda - good, I thought they had changed to align with titles.

the openera tool is much better and has Katie at 34th. Hopping to the mens it has Jack at 31st on 24th June and Cam at 35. So Jack could well challenge for a seeding at W.

Just for context, Vavara is/was Russian who got naturalised as French in May 2023 (having moved to Cannes when she was 16 and so having been in France for over the 5 year qualifying period)

Lets hope for a very kind draw in RG, if she makes R2 or R3 - then that'll cover a lot of damage!

Heather and Greet Minnen had 3 match points, Katie had a set point to level the match. Both did well to come back from a poor start, but fine margins at this level.

To be honest, that wasn't too bad from Katie

She certainly doesn't look quite as lost on clay as she used to

It's never going to be her favourite time of the year

Perfectly OK showing, all things told

Both were also a set and a break down, and Heather and Greet were miles behind in the MTB. Both matches ended up much closer than they looked like being.
