Week 20 - WTA125 - Paris, France (outdoor clay)

And broken from *30-0 again!

2-4*

Misses two break points

*2-5

Heather loses 6-7(7) 6-3 6-3

On the one hand, it was a great fight and contest. On the other, Heather put herself in good position multiple times only to waste it, so many games she had opportunities to win and lost. Very frustrating. Although credit to the Frenchwoman who did pull out some very strong play, especially on serve, when she needed it.

Good to see Katie beating some top 100 players on clay.

Katie has a big chunk of points to defend between here and the Wimbledon draw (RG R2, Surbiton ITF100 SF, Notts WTA250 winner) 70+50+280 =400.

So without some further wins on clay, or right at the start of the grass season, she will likely miss out on a career first Wimbledon seeding.

She's won 29 points here already, with 160 available if she wins her next 3 matches (and so wins the tournament) That'd help.

I dont follow wta detail - but why doesnt a 125 event offer the winner 125 points - am I missing something? Why not call it a WTA 160?!

If Katie wins no points, shed drop to 38 if no other players dropped points, by Wimbledon. 3 others between where she is and 38 will lose points to take them below her, so shes effectively at a live 35 right now, in terms of points 4 weeks out- If I looked correctly. So thats her ground to make up.

Only her 2nd and 3rd Top 100 wins on clay. And her first was at Billie Jean King Cup.

The winner of a WTA125 does now get 125 points. It used to be 160 points, but they have aligned the points with the category.
