Gosh I'm really surprised to see how much Linda's ranking has dropped.  I had no idea.

Big drop in September last year from WR68. She was WR88 at the start of 2024, but dropped to 126 after the AO. A slow decline since then.

Still only 19 though. Still plenty of time.

Oh dear, that was a bit of a wet weekend. I wonder how Emma and Fran would have done...... a bit better I expect.

Why is Emma not playing? Is she still tired? I suppose that she would have had to qualify. How is she set for Roland Garros?

She dropped out of qualifying last week. Maybe hoping along with Caroline Wozniacki for a WC into the main draw but they went with Italians. Not a lot on socials re what she is doing, has come back from a break in the sun. Next tournament Strasbourg. Assuming if she doesnt get into the main draw as an alternate for the FO then that could be her last tournament on clay and she will begin preparations for the grass court season. Potentially richer pickings re points and a home crowd behind her.

Update - there is some chat on Facebook where a source is adamant ER has withdrawn from Strasbourg to focus on FO qualies. Im not so sure. Most probably it is still all in the mix!

I have it on good authority that after Madrid she went to Stanford for an open day.... so who knows what that means!

She wasnt in Stanford from the pics after the Madrid Open, looked like Portugal. However dates fit re Stanford the weekend following and there is another photo from what could be a long haul flight. Couldnt blame her if she went that route TBH, she was toying with Cambridge at one point. Not like her to be so quiet on Instagram though.

That would be something. Emma suddenly announces that she has decided to go to college starting this September!

I think there has been some misreporting re Emma's participation. My understanding is that she was on the entry list using her actual (not special) ranking but hadn't been awarded a wild card or anything. But the tournament chose to promote her anyway.

Katie finally has an opponent - Sramkova, who beat Harriet in Q1.

If Katie wins this match her next opponent will be Sofia Kenin, who rather surprisingly in view of her recent run of R1 losses, beat the 8th seed Ons Jabeur.
