Week 18 - ITF W100 Bonita Springs, USA - Clay

I certainly had the impression earlier in her career ( say about 4 or 5 years ago ) that the LTA paid a lot of attention to Emily.

I am not sure what her coaching set-ups were but there often seemed to be a bit of an LTA entourage watching her even while her results were stalling, as if they thought she had a great potential future. And she maybe felt under pressure?

Bit as she continued to relatively struggle to progress in singles, particularly at then W25s and above, that interest seemed to steadily wane.

It's very pleasing how she has kept striving away so and in the last year or so back onto an upwards trajectory.

Yes, I remember watching her a couple of times at Chiswick (maybe 2016 and 2017 ?). There were at least 4 from the LTA watchng her (including JB) - must have been a lot of pressure. Her results have been improving steadily this year (particularly in doubles) and she is only 24 so there could be plenty more to come.

She had a major sponsorship deal - I can't remember from whom - which seemed a little unfair at the time as there were other, better players to have benefited from it.  So she has certainly had a lot of help with her game in the past.

Yes. I'm pretty sure it was SKy too. She also got a tennis scholarship to one of the good US colleges - and turned it down (as did Jodie)

 Was that a mistake?
