My best guess is that this takes her up 31 ranking places, to WR277, GBR8.
According to WTA live rankings she drops 10 places to 308.
Peter this is a W35 so points are not added straight way. live rankings will show how many points she will have next week if you look at 5Week Forcast
Somay has 18 points to drop on both 06/05 and 20/05. The 35 points she adds on 20/05 ( after the Rome 1000 ) from here will as of now leave her down a net 1 point compared with her 22/04 points
5 weeks projection has her live ranking points going...
226. 261,243.243,243...
...but it does seem possible that the 261 points which would make her approx WR277 will not turn into an official ranking, due to the WTA not updating that week.
This system is not over blessed with surdity, imho.

Equivalent in football would be if a couple of mid-table League 2 sides play a midweek game, but everybody has to wait until Saturday for the table to be updated, because there's Premier league fixtures on the Saturday - and if the Premier League teams are involved in the FA Cup, they dont bother to update the tables at all.
I presume that the official rankings system is a legacy of the old analogue world when results from all over the world had to be faxed into Florida, and manually entered into a set of ledgers by a team of stenographers at WTA/ATP HQ. Several days work. But now that it all happens digitally, I cant see any reason, beyond inertia, that they don't use live rankings. And the delay does matter, occasionally, in that it discriminates against players that are improving, or in a rich seam of form -its quite common to see a Q1 seed who has a higher live ranking than several MD players - because the Q1 seed has been winning a lot recently.

Totally agree, especially applying to the ITF. If they can live stream matches they can update rankings the same week the matches are played.
The biggest issue is rankings from some events not updating the following week, either from lower-level ITF events or halfway through Slams when many other single-week events have been played.
You already have a situation where the seedings for the tournament don't reflect the current rankings as they change the Monday the event stars. The only problem I can see from a PR point of view is the ranking of players changing during the event.
Ive always agreed the ITF events should be updated on the Monday straight after the event, this is the 21st century and no reason any event need delay. If there is a minor delay for one event, that can be an exception and updated belatedly.
Most people, I think, follow live rankings as opposed to actual rankings published on a given Monday, I certainly never really pay attention to the actual rankings. The issue with using live rankings, I guess, would be at what specific point in time do you cut the line for event entry purposes, if live rankings are occurring real time all over the world, the events would need a clear and fair cut off point that is consistent, and the real actual rankings provide that, I think. Ie as published each Monday etc .
