Weeks 17 & 18 - ATP Masters 1000 - Mutua Madrid Open - Madrid, Spain (clay)

thats a good win, Doumbia and Reboul have had a good season, in the Race top 8. It moves to Jamie to 22 in the live rankings, although they are still only 21 in the live race.

Nonetheless, one more win and Jamie and Michael will both go top 20 individually (and in the Race). Good to see

My heart sank when I saw that first set score!

SF:  Sebastian Korda & Jordan Thompson (USA/AUS) CR 243 (185+58) vs (11) Jamie Murray & Michael Venus (NZL) CR 51 (25+26)

Korda & Thompson beat the 12th seeds, Bolelli & Vavassori, in straight sets...

Jamie and Michael are 11th seeds though! So no problem!

2 mens singles semis - just over half an hour of play with a walkover and retirement. Ouch. Just as well the ATP focused on doubles this week and delivered successful changes to excite the fans.

At least Rybakina and Sabalenka came up with the goods - 2hrs17 mins of highly entertaining tennis with a good crowd watching.

and could well win the title, given that Behar & Pavlasek were given a walkover into the final by Granollers & Zeballos (2).  disbelief

You were saying, Jon?  hmm

Granollers and Zeballos have done all they need to do to climb to No. 1 in the rankings having saved match points in two successive matches.

I guess a "singles pair" winning the doubles title will prove...absolutely nothing.

A singles pair won it last year anyway. Also, they actually decent doubles players by ranking, esp Thompson.

And another retirement in the mens, Lehecka in his semi against FAA at 3 all. Mens been a massive let down at the end of the event.

FAA versus Rublev, on clay, is one youd have got long odds for at the events start

Exactly. Thompson bidding for his fourth doubles title this year.

Really hard to see where the French and Wimbledon singles and doubles titles will end up this year - mens game seems completely open, the doubles is almost a lottery

That's the 3rd RET or WO FAA has benefitted from in the last 4 rounds.
