Good to see such a lot of perspective re Emma

The truly encouraging thing is her best clearly remains very good and can get better.

So in Katie's match the umpire is going to look at close calls but in Jack's they had hawkeye. Is this a difference between WTA and ATP or just some courts have it and some don't?

Katie made a bit of a meal of things from 6-1 *3-2. Now 6-1 3-6 2-3*

Struggling in the conditions quite a bit.

Shame - especially from a set and a break up, that was as good a draw as she could hope for! Did anyone watch? Has she made any improvements on clay?

Montgomery wins 11 points in a row to lead 2-5 0-40*, misses all three, and Katie eventually breaks.

*3-5

She's basically done in the point the second she has to move more than two steps but she's scrapping.

Called at least a bit early. Katie saves 3 MPs in a row and a 4th before breaking on her 4th BP of the game.

6-1 3-6 *3-5

R2: BOULTER, Katie (GBR) (26) 28 (CH=27 2024) lost to MONTGOMERY, Robin (USA) WC 183 (CH=143 2023) 6-1 3-6 4-6

Montgomery holds easily to win 1-6 6-3 6-4.

I mean, she won't get a much better draw to win on clay at this level, but she just doesn't have the versatility in her game to do anything. Be interesting to see if conditions in Rome suit slightly better but let's not plan a long stay in Paris.

Robin is 19 years old and has a JCH=2, so she looks like another high flying young player.
