The betting has been truly mad around Sophie

Against Sarah Tatu she was a 3.6 outsider

And suddenly, this morning, against a player ranked about 500, Sopheie was evens, both at 1.83

Whereby, promptly, a lot of money must have gone on Parnaby (quite understandably) at Sophie's now at 2.5

You sometimes wonder ...

Some other interesting matches today

Monnot is no great shakes - am hoping Emma Wilson plays well

And Mika on court is always interesting

Just possible for an upset for Dani too

Yes - thoroughly enjoying it !

As did Emma

(I had two 50ps on Parnaby - locked out one pretty much 15 mins later when it was well in the money before they even started. And don't mind in the slightest if the other goes south - I won a tenner on Sophie against Sarah - and really want Sophie to win here - it could be a great story - and, having seen her life, she doesn't half crack the ball)

By the way, for anyone who knows Sophie, at Redbridge she was with a bloke who looked rather like her - I wondered if maybe it was a brother? Possible?

One of the most enjoyable matches watched on livestream this year

Who had Sophie Drakeford-Lewis in their top ten ?

Sophie played an excellent balance of tennis and won 6-4 6-3

Will we see her at Wimbledon qualies. If so and she gets through that would be a huge story and people love a story.

Apologies, but i know very little about Sophie.
Never saw her play at juniors
She is 25 an a netball international.

Is she still a professional netball player?
If so how does she manage both sports?

Sorry, paulisi, I don't know about her scheduling

Although if she's only just picked up tennis 'seriously', then maybe she wasn't expecting to get very far or for it to take up much of her time

Like you, I don't remember seeing her play live - although I do know the name from back in 2015 or so

Seeing her at Redbridge, though, she's a tall woman, with a fast arm, cracking serve and forehand and, although she's not the nippiest, she moves OK and is also well-balanced and pushes into the ground well (netball traits?)

Today, in particular, she also played an intelligent game - balancing attack and defence very well.

As you say, emmsie - there's marketing potential for a great story here :)

I'd have thought grass would suit her just fine !

Based on her 3 wins so far and the rankings of the players, and the ease of the wins, it looks like she is playing at top 500 level already. Feels very promising!
