And with more particular British interest, our women's 800 m gold ...

Excellent result for Keely Hodgkinson. Interesting to note that a woman running the same time (1:56.72) in the event in 2016 would have finished 3rd.

Quite interesting, and I suspect an underlying point.

The Rio 800m women's podium is infamous amongst people who think that women's sport should be protected from male advantage.

Great to see Cindy Ngamba , a Cameroonian refugee based in GB; she hasnt got British citizenship so shes representing the refugee team; shes got a guaranteed a bronze and should have got the semi win but not to be. But I for one count that as a bronze for Team GB, well done Cindy!

She trains in the British training squad and is based in Sheffield, in case anyone wonders. Another medal for Yorkshire, I reckon, one of many - and was robbed in that semi. A few strange decisions in the boxing

Go KJT in the 800m, final event of the heptathlon at 7.25 pm tonight.

She's in 2nd, 121 points behind the 2 time Olympic champion, Nafi Thiam. Apparently for every second she finishes ahead of Thiam she gains 15 points, so needs to finish just over 8 seconds clear. History between them seems to suggest 5 or 6 seconds and it would be really on but 8.seconds is a very tough ask. She will just have to go for it. without going crazy,
but Thiam will be able to hold position and judge things.

It was good to see KJT looking so animated and pleased with her high jump and shot put yesterday after a solid 100m hurdles start. I did get the impression though she was on a wee bit of a downer after the 200 m when she didn't go as quick as she'd hoped, thus limiting her lead at the end of day 1.

Today, pretty solid in the long jump and javelin and did save her best for her 3rd attempt each time. But just not the wee bit more from each that she probably hoped for, and with Thiam's very good javelin we are left with these 8 seconds.

May she produce a great run, then count these seconds.

Such a great effort from KJT.

Can't ask much more than produce a personal best 800m, and yes it does look like 5 or 6 seconds might have been doable but over 8 seconds was a bit too much.

3 times Olympic champion is legendary by Thiam. But just so pleased that Kat has that Olympic medal and looks so happy. Well done!

Great for Kat, the Olympic medal was the one she really wanted and the only one she didn't have.

She hates the attention and avoids the crowds. She won't even come down to the club on club nights because there are too many people.

I'm the women's team manager for Liverpool Harriers and she was hoping to compete in a low key club match as a warm up, but got injured at the Europeans and pulled out.

Hopefully, we can persuade her to pop down to the club soon.

Great for Kat and I hope great for all these who know her and have followed her journey from before some of us really first saw her around London 2012.

5. GBR 14 gold, 20 silver, 23 bronze, total 57
6. FRA 14 gold, 20 silver, 22 bronze, total 56

Ooh la la !

( vying for 3rd and 4th for total medals behind the you know who two. The Aussies and Japanese have got lucky and won more golds, 18 and 16 respectively, so far )

Both delighted and still a bit gutted for KJT. Wonderful performance.

I think she got a little unlucky with the wind direction in the 200m last night. Seemed to be behind for the earlier heat when Thiam ran but was slightly against for Kat. Could have made a difference of a couple of tenths maybe. Not sure what that would have meant in terms of points.

57 is same as we had in Tokyo last time as well. BOC targeted 50-70 so 57 with two days left feels about spot on.

Watched the climbing today, the British lad winning was epic stuff. Good event - didnt like the speed climbing but the bouldering and lead climbing showed this sport deserves its place here.

Not sure Im convinced about break dancing yet really?

The other newer sports like BMX and Skateboarding are good to watch.

Personally, Id consider getting rid of dressage and in general Im not sure of any event with horses in it these days; perhaps they will get canned in not too distant future

I'd be definitely dumping break dancing

To be quite honest whilst I don't doubt the sport with the dubious nature of the judges calls this Olympics I'd not be to surprised to see boxing axed... I watched 5/6 fights and all seemed to me anyway to have been the wrong calls.
