And of course everyone else is losing points in the same way. The points system change actually makes a lot of sense because the gap between what was 15 and 25k was always weirdly large, and then that meant higher tier ITF levels ended up squeezed quite closely together and not really acting as a meaningful ladder, because the highest ITF had to still be awarding less points than the lowest WTA.
It takes a little time to shake itself out, and people will benefit slightly depending on when in 2023 they got their big points hauls. But in the end it is much of a muchness.
I take it Emily's family's glasses are generally at least half empty!!!
And yes, the new points system is so so much better.
The points / prize money progression for ITFs was a mess and also the WTA rebranding WTA Internationals as WTA 250s etc while keeping the winning points at 280 etc rather than the logical but fairly minor change to 250 etc was just weird. Very kind of them to take a little time to finally sort things out.

With reduced ranking points at all levels from WTA250 downwards, it's going to be interesting to see whether and how it affects progression in the rankings. While things are likely to sort themselves out at the lower levels, I think it might be more difficult to break into the game's elite. But I also think the WTA is trying to create an elite group of players who compete against each other on a more regular basis. But there needs to be room for movement.
The ATP have made similar changes to their rankings - including the increasing of points at Slams - so will be interesting to see where we stand at year's end.
