The winner probably plays 8th seed Ostapenko in R2 and Then Swiatek.

Very interesting match up. Kerber isnt great on clay so could be a decent chance.

A R1 win against Kerber would be worth 60 points and move Emma about 50 places up the rankings to around 250.

Without tempting fate, that's a pretty good draw for an event with such a strong entry list.

Do we know if Emma is playing in Madrid or is she waiting for final WCs?

Katie Boulter is on the list. There are 4 WCs announced but Emma is not yet on the list.

I thought I read somewhere on here that Ali Collins was popping up in the doubles. No sign of her in the draw though

As brand ambassador she's playing an exhibition before the matches tonight. Albeit it's only a championship tie break set up to 10 points partnering with a German goalkeeper Fabian Bredlow against Porsche Talent Teams Ella Seidel and ice-hockeys Jackson Cressey, with the winner playing another against the winner of the other exhibition 'match'.

Just read on tournament FB page Emma has pulled out of this evenings event due to recovery from her BJK exploits. Hope its precautionary, but who knows.

Yes, hopefully Emma's fine and just making what seems a sensible move.

Has she flown out again or was that flying in? Some promotional, shots re Porsche on Instagram then she is in the airport? Mmm.

I think something is up as Emma and Angelique arent on the order of play for April 16th

There only seem to be 8 of the 12 first round matches listed for Mon 15/Tues 16. Alexandrova/Jabeur's match is also not scheduled on either day, for example. I think the other two (apart from Emma's) that aren't on the schedule yet are Kostyuk/Siegmund and Samsonova/Potapova. So presumably they will all play Weds?

Edit: this is going by the order of play/draw sheets on the official website.
