2024 British Tournaments

Not sure if there is a thread for this years tournaments. I couldnt find one, having gone through the pages till I found the 2023 one.

I notice the post Wimbledon ITF tournaments are now showing on the ITF calendar. Unlike last year they are all showing as Hard court tournament. real shame that we wont have any lower ranked grass court tournaments this year.

Currently the Men have 4 x M25 2 in Nottingham and 2 in Roehampton. while the Womens is showing 1x w50 in Nottingham and 2 x W35 in Roehampton.

I notice the 2nd W35 Roehampton has its location as Chertsey, which I assume is a mistake, but a rather curious mistake to make.

The existing thread is here

The LTA have updated their competitions calendar to the end of September, which only adds to what we already know another M25/W35 in Aldershot the week after the 2 Roehampton events in July/August. Lack of proof reading on the womens WC feed up list suggests there has been a change of plan as it says the WC is to 1 of W35 Foxhills (29/07/2024), W35 Roehampton (05/09/2024), W35 Aldershot (12/09/2024) but Foxhills is not being held this year and Roehampton and Aldershot are on different dates.

For women a WC feed up is only available in the British Tour Premier at West Worthing (Grass) in June.

The men have opportunities for WCs at
Progress Tour Cromer (to Nottingham ITFs)
BT West Worthing (to Nottingham ITFs)
Progress Tour Sutton (to Roehampton/Aldershot)
British Tour Tier 1 Paddington (to Nottingham)
British Tour Tier 1 Giffnock (to Roehampton/Aldershot)

There's also WCs available for the men's events to the
NCAA ranked player with the highest ATP ranking (to Roehampton or Aldershot)
Junior who accumulates most ITF points at J300 Roehampton and Junior Wimbledon (to Roehampton or Aldershot)

It's getting near that time of year again.

Wimbledon Wild card play-offs 2024 fact sheet (pdf)
Only 1 minor change to last year following the apparent demise of the UK Pro League a WC for the winner of the UKPL grass event that was awarded last year has had to be reallocated. For the men that has gone to the the RU in the 18U Junior Nationals and for the women it has gone back to the LTA for a second discretionary Wild Card. Otherwise, format of the competition and criteria for wild cards are the same as last year. We can put names to some of the WCs now, subject to any unexpected changes in rankings over the next month, and doing that means Hannah Klugman, Mika Stojsavljevic, Charlie Robertson, Johannus Monday and Millie Rajecki are guaranteed a place in the play-offs if they need and want one. Without getting into Wimbledon WC chat, there are at least a couple of names on that list that most people expect to get a Wimbledon quali WC.

Just looking at the competitions calendar, couple of queries for those who know!

1) Is there a post September version yet ( other than the pdf linked above, I am not sure at all where one finds this type of information on the LTA website - it isnt very obvious at all! If anyone can point me to how you actually find the resource like this from lta.org.uk , that would be very kind!)

2) Progress Tour - as mentioned, their website seems designed to post minimal information (perhaps the LTA designed it for them!). the pdf above suggests one or two events are taking place but the Progress Tour website has nothing in the future...any ideas on what is happening in that Tour?

3) UKPL - I guess we all assume it has gone down for ever, but the website still exists, the X handle is still up and they exist as a going concern at Companies House - anyone got any UKPL insights and any idea if it has definitely gone down forever or may reappear? I once assumed it and the British Tour Premier events might merge in some way to up the profile of British Tour Premier events, but this doesnt appear to have had any legs, just in my fanciful mind!

Thanks so much!

1. Performance Competitions Calendar All Tennis Tournaments | LTA

2. The Progress Tour is top secret. I still have no clue who won Sutton at the beginning of the month.

3. My guess is the UKPL is taking a year out while new funding agreements are sought and the future format is decided or, as you say, its gone for good.

For those interested, the Summer County Cup takes place this week. The general page of info is here

If you want to follow the results I suggest you download the pdf from that page which will give you links to the individual groups - I always have trouble finding the groups any other way.

I notice that the ATP challenger calendar has been updated till the end of October. No GB events, not that I was expecting any. Still no updates on any Autumn ITFs. The only one seemingly confirmed is the W100in Shrewsbury as they have their own website showing dates 13-20th October.

ITF now have the remaining events added.

14 Oct W100 Shrewsbury / M25 Edgbaston
21 Oct W75/M25 Glasgow
28 Oct W35 Loughborough

No men's event in that last week yet but it may just be late being added.

I am sad to learn The Shrewsbury Club has been sold to David Lloyd Clubs and worry what this means for the future of the tournaments held there. Will DLC want to hold and run tournaments in the way the previous management has, if at all?

This sounds concerning from this article at the time of the sale last month

Tennis events held at the club would also be evaluated by David Lloyd.

Mr Courteen added that the ITF World Tennis Tour in October would go ahead as planned.

"My hope would be that it would continue," said Mr Courteen.

"It's a big part of what makes the Shrewsbury Club, the Shrewsbury Club."

Shrewsbury would be a big loss if it didn't continue or a lot of what has given the Shrewsbury tournaments an excellent reputation was taken away.
