Alan Jones

If I've correctly understood a tweet/X from Jo Durie, her former coach has passed away. Sad news if that's the case.

LTA tribute.

Slightly longer ITVX article - includes BJK's X post & a photo of him wearing a T-shirt proclaiming "I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right"!  smile

Awwwwww ive only just seen this news.
I met Alan many years ago at Northwood David Lloyd club.
He is the outspoken type a bit like myself, which I like.
You might remember the 2001 documentary WTA girls on tour where him and Jo Durie briefly featured and he was talking about the qualities he as a coach would look for in a player and his comment was what youre looking for Is a fast thinking reactive eye hand coordinated phenomenally quick Athlete I dont care if they look like Bridgie Bordeaux or the dog next door bottom line. ( Jo Duries face when he says it
Is brilliant).

I met Alan Jones many years ago at Hazelwood along with Jo . At the time the LTA was adamant that all junior players below the age of 11 ( I think ) should switch to the equivalent of todays green dot balls and that acadamies who didnt conform would lose their Performance status. Alans view ( quite rightly ) was that was fine for beginners but switching junior players who had been playing with regular balls for up to 5 years did not make sense and he stuck to his guns.

Just an example..

A man of principle who will be sorely missed. RIP.
