Poor Jan is going to have real problems in this match if he's missing an eye

wink

Jan should have been playing top seed Kopriva so has had a nice result there.

Really great chance for Jan to make the main draw - has he ever been in an ATP Tour main draw before?

4 times on ATP tour, twice by WC and twice by qualifying.

The 2 qualifying occasions are in 2023 at ATP 250 Eastbourne and ATP 500 Hamburg.

2023 also saw his one MD win at ATP tour or Slam level when with a Wimbledon WC he won through to R2.

These 5 tournaments contribute to his 1/5 win/lose career record showing on his ATP page ( these figures were the initial clue that he had an ATP tour MD history and I then just searched his ATP tour and Slam activity for more detail ).

And may have struck it lucky again in the main draw:

L32:  (Q) Jan Choinski WR 169 vs (WC) Joćo Fonseca (BRA) WR 341 (= CH)

Looking at the draw certainly not the worst option, however the 17 year old has taken well to adults tennis this year, reaching a challenger semi and final as well as an atp semi final. Wont be easy for Choinski whos not been in great form himself.

Maybe - but Fonseca was the US Open Junior champion last season and current world ranked 3 - I think he was number 1 at the back end of last year. So he could be tough for Jan.

That was a tussle!

L32:  (Q) Jan Choinski WR 188 defeated (WC) Joćo Fonseca (BRA) WR 288 by 6-2 6-7(5) 6-4  smile

Jan first served for it at 5-2 in the second set.

*****

L16:  (Q) Jan Choinski WR 188 vs (2) Hubert Hurkacz (POL) WR 10 (CH = 8 in January)

Well done, Jan! Given his struggles/dip in form in the first part of the year, it's great to see him winning at this level.
