Lara Savic (2009) v Letiticia Romanova (2008) has been (and still is) a good quality match - good tennis - and really, really good linecalling from both (take a bow, girls, there's been some pretty dodgy stuff going on elsewhere)
I've always liked Leticia's tennis - although her volleys are the worst known to mankind, bless
And it's the first time I've seen Lara, and I can see why she's one of the LTA's top picks - she's a got a very nice technique and is a decent athlete
Daisy Wootton (2010) played well, some super stuff, and some that was really a bit all over the place - she doesn't really have her schemas of play well established. She lost in a MTB to Annabel Hristova (2008) who was well organised in her tennis and did well to come back after losing the first set really easily. But given the two years between them, Daisy was by far the more interesting player
The youngest was 2011 Liv Zingg (2011) - she's pretty light, still, compared to some of the others who - obviously - are far nearer adult in size. Doesn't really hit through the ball that well. But she sees the angles and spaces very well, and has a good base to build on going forward. (She lost to Georgiana Mititelu (2008) where the difference in age made all the difference but - again - Liv was a far, far more interesting player)
Well done to Daniela Harvey (2009) who has no ITF ranking, no points, but managed to beat Alice Haddad (2008) despite her having a pretty good ITF scoresheet behind her
Megan Knight (2011) got the better of Celine Ricaud (2009)
Good quality match (although Celine's wrist on her forehand just makes me shudder each time I see it). But well done to both.
Leticia came through with no problem (didn't see that at all - wasn't on a streamed court, I don't think, or I just missed it, but I was pretty confident she'd beat Alice Wilson-Marsh so wasn't that keen to watch it anyway)
Daniella Britton (2010) v Ophelia K Davies (2009) was a very close match which, tbh, Daniella should have won but experience and age (even if only a year) makes a difference and it ended up in a relatively easy thid set which Ophelia won. Dani should be pretty happy with her level but miffed that she let it slip away in the second
Bella Loftus (2008) def Dani Harvey (2009) 6-3 7-5 which was probably a fair score. Not a great fan of Bella's tennis though.
Ophelia and Danni have met in big events 4 times now and Ophelia has won every one. She hits hard and aggressively and that seems to be Daniellas downfall. In the part I saw Daniella resorted to moonballing a lot which didnt phase Ophelia at all. However there was also a couple of great drop shots and volleys from Daniella though, so she obviously has some good variety.
Leticia and Alice were on a streamed court and I watched most of it. Alice definitely wasnt at her best
Also watched Izzy and Rosie play. Rosie just couldnt find a way past Izzys athleticism and angles
