Lily won and plays the 3rd seed next. Rodionova is a bit unusual in being 34 years of age and having reached her career high this year.
People might also remember all the hoo-hah there was with Rodinova at the start of the year as she was the highest ranked Aussie player (if I remember rightly), really close to making the MD as of right, but wasn't given a wildcard
She was very vocal that it was because her face didn't fit, too old, she was being discriminated against for having trodden on a few toes etc
And then she lost in R1 of qualis - which some said vindicated the Aussie federation and others said was because she didn't feel she had any support at her home GS
Feel a little sorry for Rodionova who has done so well to break into the Top 100 at the age of 34. Unprecedented for the Australian No. 1 not to get a wild card into the Australian Open. Appreciate that she is not the most popular player (although not disliked as much as her sister), but would have been a reward for her efforts.
All seven outstanding doubles matches are being played this afternoon (Maia+ have a bye). I'll post a roundup after Beth and Eden have played.
Meanwhile Emily and Isabelle have just romped home 1 & 1 with the loss of just 5 points on serve
L16:- Sarah Beth Grey (GBR) / Eden Silva (GBR) CR338 (156+182) [4] v Tayisiya Morderger (GER) / Yana Morderger (GER) CR750 (375+375) 6-2 (6)6-7 13-11 They were 1-4 down in the second set, and served for the match at 5-4 and 6-5.
Good win for Marni.
Is this her biggest scalp to date?
When I was at Shrewsbury, I know Dodin was ranked about the same?
Also, could somebody please tell me which site is best to use for live rankings?
I have been using tennis tonic, but it is a little off sometimes.
Also well done Lily
