The Argentine of course beat Andy in the AO, and in October in Basel, so will be a tough one. Court looked slow to me today as well.

Matteo was struggling though

Well done, Andy!

I though he looked a lot sharper around the court than he did earlier in the year: getting to balls with plenty of time rather than stretching for them/being half a step away from where he needed to be, and with some great retrieves on drop shots etc, so that's good to see.

Yes, that was a really nasty looking couple of minutes for him, although he did recover enough to compete well and make it hard for Andy, and I hope it's not a lasting issue for him.

Humidity, absolutely mental in florida this time of year through autumn.

It's fine in March, in fact March is the best time to go.

Matteo played and won a challenger last week.

I thought that was a tough first round draw for Andy, didn't expect him to come through it tbh. Well done that man.

Casaux also had issues though, clearly something is impacting them. Maybe lack of fitness?

It was indeed a tough match. The thing about Andy these days is that he may not be able to still reach consistent heights across maybe a whole long match or series of matches but there are still some sublime moments and passages of play that he produced here. I found it a very entertaining game.

He didn't win, he was RU.

Stu Fraser's report on Andy's match & Jack's in today's Times.  Includes Andy's response to Laura Robson's question about his demeanour on court (typically forthright!) & his concerns about the current stand-off between the Grand Slams & the Saudis.

The Beeb's report on the two matches here.
