Harriet's draw didn't look too bad at first until I realised that Kasintseva is the Andorran former junior no 1.
Heather has a tough one with Zidansek or Tauson waiting in the second round.
I wonder who is the Andorran Number 2 though - it must be quite an achievement to be the best young player in Andorra!!! Wonder how far the Andorran rankings stretch.
Only joking on this post, of course, and I do know that Kasintseva is a very talented young player.
Q1: WATSON, Heather (GBR) WC 147 (CH=38 2015) v DODIN, Oceane ((FRA) 8) 85 (CH=46 2017) They played in 2018 with Heather winning 3 & 0
Q1: DART, Harriet (GBR (12) 90 (CH=84 2022) v KOIKE, Ena (JPN) WC 569 (CH=563 2024) {17yo JCH=9}

Six wild cards: five to youngsters and one to our Heather. Maybe because of her days training in Florida.
Miami has often given wildcards to non Americans and occasionally unexpected ones - quite often Latin American, it is Miami after all - and this years look like an interesting list. Good to see Kei Nishikori got one in the mens
As per usual with Miami, on the women's side all the qualifying and main draw WCs except Williams, Woz and Halep are to their own, being IMG managed, IMG Academy or IMG Academy graduate players.

Like it
And, yes, no real surprise in any of those wildcards - IMG controls them, as always

Of course, I forgot it was an IMG fest. Are any of the other Masters events controlled by IMG or one of the big agents? Madrid rings a bell?
Kokke had what looked to me to be a very 'I can see why you're successful in juniors but you're going to have some issues transitioning to the pro's' game. Clearly lots of talent there but she was very passive and didn't offer very much to make Harriet look under any kind of pressure.
