Week 10 - WTA1000 - Indian Wells, USA Hard

Not how you want it but helpful given the damage limitation Emma is currently doing to her ranking by getting these two wins.

Yes. Exactly. And reduces over-use injury risk hmm

Retirements and injuries are part of tennis - as our players know as well as anyone

Take the win, Emma

Am on court waiting for Emma.

What a shame for you Brittak, our intrepid reporter.

The only time I was courtside (literally, near her chair) to watch Emma it was she who was in pain and retired about 4games in.

Will you be there Monday ?

Didnt post earlier as soon as Yamstreska retired dashed off to get to Cams court. All ashame as had never seen Emma play live before and had bagged a great seat (unreserved).

Thought Emma started well which is encouraging and was hitting the ball well and with purpose. Having said that Yastremska was awful! Didnt notice what happened to her - she suddenly stopped and the umpire went over and called for the trainer. To be fair to her the MTO didnt last long and she retired almost straightaway.

Not much else to say really but I am still here Monday!

Yes, always good to hear 'courtside' news, brittak, even if it's not quite what you'd hoped for
Gives us a flavour though
Keep enjoying the rest !

So its Sabalenka next for Emma after her epic win against Peyton Stearns.

Saw the first set but left to see some other matches as Im not really a fan of Sabalenkas tennis. Fair to say I think that she often doesnt display much subtlety.
Plan A is usually to hit the ball hard and if that doesnt work, Plan B is to hit it harder!

Still will be a good test for Emma and hopefully I will be there to see her!

Thanks. Brittak. Look forward to your court side observations. I agree not a fan of Sabalenkas game, but just wondering if the slow courts at Indians Wells take some of the power out of her shot making. Have a good day! Very wet here in Staffordshire today.

Ive read in several places the courts are quicker this year; havent seen any play myself to validate that (we are away for a break for my wifes birthday) but thats what a few commentators have been saying

Well done Emma

Funnily enough, the last time Yastremska retired from a WTA match she was playing Emma back in September 2022. That's around 38 tournaments ago.

Looked like a pulled ab from the way she was clutching her stomach doubled up at the back of the court.

4-0 down in the 1st set was the earliest Yastremska has retired in any  match in the whole of her senior career. What has caused the most annoyance is retiring at 5-1 or 5-0 down in the 3rd set and  numerous  MTO'S. On her Instagram account Yastremska wished Emma good luck and wrote that she'd be sure that they would play more matches together. They might  start them even if so far Yastremska cannot finish them.

She has a bad reputation I agree but this time I think you're being a bit harsh. Quite clearly pulled up suddenly and withdrew from the doubles later on I think too.

Just watching Kerber who is playing quite well. Kudermetova loses the first set and then goes off for a toilet break. Have to say it is time this was stopped. Especially bad in the women's game. Sometimes they are only on court half an hour or so and lose a set and off they go. Tantamount to cheating in my opinion.  Really should be a rule where you have to be on court at least an hour before you can go off court for a bathroom break.

To pee, or not to pee, that is the question:
