And Emma wins 6-2 in the third....Navarro.

Does this make our Emma's performance against Sabalenka less impressive by comparison given Navarro was beaten easily by Katie in San Diego?

No - tennis matches and match ups are all individual , styles are different and players are better or worse one day or another. the A beat B, B beat C so A must be able to beat C days are long gone. Enough people saw Emma R play well to feel she is doing ok , generally, and her performance was positive.

Also, Navarro is great, was impressed by her even against Katie, she has a beautiful game to watch.

Not that it matters, but Navarro comes from a very wealthy family, her dad set up and owns the company which owns Credit One Bank in the USA. Her sister, Meggie, is going to college and is supposed to also be talented at tennis.

Not sure that 'very wealthy' quite covers it when your dad is actually a billionnaire smile

Although with Pegula's dad at over $6 billion, maybe Emma's at approx $3 billion is small change ....

Just joking - bbc reports she was 20 today!

Your BBC link says it was Gauff's 20th birthday rather than Sabalenka's.

They must have sneakily changed it

Im sorry - I missed this. Sabalenka is only 20?! Where have I been

ha - it reads this now

Playing on her 20th birthday, 2023 US Open champion Gauff wrapped up the first set in 25 minutes.

But last night it said, the 2023 US Open Champion wrapped up the first set...

To be honest, I have no idea who the US Open womens champion is so assumed it was Sabalenka based on how the article read, so maybe they clarified - but it probably was obvious to anyone it wasnt Sabalenka (my bad!) - at least now I know Gauff was 2023 US Champ!

Marta Kostyuk wasn't too tired losing to Katie in the San Diego final as she is in the semi finals of Indian Wells. She did however have the benefit of a walkover from Vondrousova.

Kostyuks match today with Potapova was by no means a classic. . .!
Coupled with Wozniacki retiring at 4-6, 0-1 and a bee invasion (yes really) in the Alcaraz/Zverev match - it has not been a good day on the main court!
