Yastrzemska isnt injured she does this all the time when she is up against it. Well done Emma
She has a bad reputation I agree but this time I think you're being a bit harsh. Quite clearly pulled up suddenly and withdrew from the doubles later on I think too.
Just watching Kerber who is playing quite well. Kudermetova loses the first set and then goes off for a toilet break. Have to say it is time this was stopped. Especially bad in the women's game. Sometimes they are only on court half an hour or so and lose a set and off they go. Tantamount to cheating in my opinion. Really should be a rule where you have to be on court at least an hour before you can go off court for a bathroom break.
I agree but with the caveat that they can agree with the umpire prior to the match under some circumstances. I really don't want to see a player humiliated because they have been denied the opportunity to use the toilet.

Yes. I don't really see how you get round this. The bathroom breaks are obviously being used strategically at times/often. But there are many occasions when they would be necessary, even after a short time on court. (MTOs get used strategically too - but are obviously genuine in most/many cases - it's similar)
Looks like we have a battle of the comeback athletes
Emma Raducanu-live 287
Naomi Osaka - live 228
Caroline Wozniaki - live 148
Angie Kerber - live 342
Simona Halep - UNR

Humiliation isn't necessary - a player can always concede if they have a medical issue, like they did in (e.g.) Mr Laver's day.

I don't think that's quite what emmsie means though
And, although it's a little 'indelicate' maybe, it's important to address:
I think emmsie means: what if a female player suddenly realises 10 minuntes in that she's got an issue with her sanitary products and is at serious risk of there being blood on display?
The spectators don't want her to have to concede - that's not good for the sport
And no one wants her to continue for the next 20 minutes, surely, with it getting worse, and think how that looks on TV, as well as her own embarrassment

I have to say that looked like period cramps to me, as a woman I can sympathise. We have seem some improvement in what gear woman tennis players can wear on court, but still a way to go there. I remember Coco recounting exactly what CD says, and it was the umpire who allowed her to leave the court and make the necessary adjustments with no penalty.

Precisely. Whatever the rules say, the umpire has discretion to ensure decorum is preserved. If you need a wee you should wait or concede.

Cannot give them all wildcards...
All but Woz and Halep can use SR/PR instead. Halep may not get some WC's.

Others may also be looking for WCs such as Volynets? she got a WC for IW, beat Andreeva and Jabeur and plays Wozniaki in the 3rd round.

It's going to be fascinating to see which of these players end up competing at the Olympics. Some can use protected rankings, and there are two places for players who have won the most Grand Slam/Olympic titles. And some might end up being direct entries. Raducanu is in the mix.

Oh absolutely there will always be other players too as well as those returning from injury.
